About this deal

After completing her tours with the Marines in Iraq, Molly Sutton knew she could take down any bad guy she met.But when a family tragedy exposes the dark side of her local police, she joined up with her former CO Burke Broussard, who left New Orleans PD to set up a private investigative service for people who couldn’t find justice elsewhere. When Prosecutor Kaj Cardozo needs a bodyguard for his nearly kidnapped ten-year-old son Elijah, he goes to Broussard because he doesn't trust the New Orleans Police Department. Broussard assigns former Marine Val Sorenson to the case because she's good with kids and has a connection to the drug gang that was implicated in the attempted kidnapping.

years ago Kit vowed to find her sister Wrens killer and she became a Detective to do it, ever since the tragic event along with her foster father they’ve turned over every stone and come up with nothing, they’ve had no new leads on Wrens killer for the past 5 years. This new case is so similar to what happened to Wren can Kit do what she does best dispute the pain?. Bottom line, this was a great addition to Ms. Rose's world and another story that I heavily enjoyed by her. I can't wait to see what else New Orleans will give us. This riveting crime thriller, police procedural, and romantic suspense novel keeps you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. The novel builds suspense in a way that pulls readers into the lives of the characters. The plot is full of chasing down leads and interviewing people as well as plenty of danger for those involved. I enjoyed how the author provided unpredictable moments and a little humor, which offset some gruesome spots in this tale. Themes include murder, abduction, relationships, families, drugs, friendship, secrets, trust, assault, torture, corruption, and much more. The best part of this story is the character development. She perfected the bad guys with all of the creepiness and meanness that draws you into the depths of the story. The supporting characters are wonderful as well. With a range of depth and conviction, Rose grabs your interest throughout this massive book. However, with threats coming from every direction and trouble knowing who the team can trust. This is not an easy task. The cold case that has Kit’s attention has been going on for years, and she is bound and determined to be the one to solve the case. Meanwhile, Sam has his own ideas and between the two of them, although independently for the most part, is looking for answers of his own. Working from different angles, Kit and Sam work to uncover the truth... And their growing feelings for one another.

The two main characters, Val and Kaj, were developed with heart and kindness, plus the growth of steamy heat and simmering love interest tempered the ugliness surrounding them. Public prosecutor J.P. "Kaj" Cardozo has only lived in New Orleans for six months, and he's already working on a high-profile celebrity sexual assault case that's made headlines all over the country. But when his son becomes the target of a kidnapping attempt as a threat to Kaj, he is desperate to keep him safe and turns to a private investigative firm famous for their protection services. In the end, this story was a blend of dark and light which is the author’s specialty when presenting the dregs of human nature. There were a few lagging moments in the first half as it was setting the table, but it was riveting when it counted. Warnings to those who can’t read about abuse and a past rape which is all handled carefully, but is part of the narrative. There are troubles that come out of the cases and Kaj’s family, but good things from his romance with Val and the teamwork of the expanding Broussard Investigations that go after the powerful evil in New Orleans. Romantic Suspense fans who want a gritty case balanced with a solid romantic pair look no further than this series.

Success!

Val is also dealing with the death of twin. Throughout this story, she learns more about her brother and learns that he wasn't the hero she thought he was which brings its own trauma to the situation. And, to hype up the tension, the major villain gets narration time as well. I really wanted some big-time justice there and Karen Rose delivered. And with a fast-paced, edge of your seat and brilliantly unpredictable storyline. This was a gripping read. That I'd one hundred percent recommend to crime fiction fans everywhere Another draining, gritty, but in the end triumphant romantic suspense from Karen Rose. This latest takes the series to San Diego and a grim series of killings by a predator possessing a clever, cold mind.

As I mentioned above, the author has broken down her larger series into several subgroups according to the locations in which they’re set. When Sam Reeves patient’s claims hint at him being a killer he doesn’t know how to tell the police without jeopardizing his career with patient confidentiality laws in place. However, Sam can’t live with himself if there’s someone in danger and he doesn’t do something about it. Little does he know that his tip with lead to him being a suspect.Another minor thing which impacted the flow of the story were giving characters names that were somewhat difficult to know how to pronounce, only for the character to explain how to pronounce their oddly spelled name. This was consistent with the first book too and something which I found quite annoying 😅. And as the investigation unfolds and the stakes rise. Sam starts to believe his only option is to hunt for answers himself. Only thanks to client confidentiality Sam can't reveal his client's name. Which immediately makes him Kit's number one suspect.
