About this deal

One can only pray that the new fonts that continue to fill our world and our sensibilities will do at least as well, and hopefully even better than those that have come before. And it seems that we should take no chances with this, so I offer here the beginning of a celestial wish for visibility, clarity and readability Helvetica, full of grace, the font is with thee… you know, just in case. Funny and fascinating, irreverent and playful yet endlessly illuminating, the book is an absolute treat for the type-nerd, design history geek, and general lover of intelligent writing with humor.” I liked Seth, more so than Lana, and I wish we could have gotten his POV too. Lana was a little much for me and, although somewhat understandable, I didn't like her mommy issues.

This book is a single-POV story where you'll only know Lana's thoughts. Think You Deserve Each Other where you didn't know Nicholas's thoughts and pull out your hair because you wanted to know if he loved her too lmao. I do love dual POV most of the time, but you know what? Single POV is also fun. It makes you wonder more. Usually the "boy obsessed" and "he has always loved her" tropes hit more whenever it's a single POV because you never see if he actually does at the beginning until he finally confesses he has been in love with the main charcater for a long time. THE PINING IN A SINGLE POV ROMANCE? DAMN!The story is narrated in a single narration, by Lana, in her POV. Lana is a serial monogamous dater, while Seth is afraid to commit to any one. Lana really shows some tremendous growth throughout the story, as does Seth, but in different ways. The characters were well developed with witty banter, so much chemistry, sexual tension, and creatively done. The banter and tension was a high selling point for me and I craved the scenes between Seth and Lana. The author’s writing style was complex, creative, swoony, humorous, and brilliant.

The question is, is “Just My Type” trying to create a solid foundation? Or is it a fun read for someone curious, and in that respect is it well-written and structured? I personally enjoyed type gossip immensely as part of my beginning education, because it was so hilarious and gave a seemingly opaque and complex skill a bit of a character flaw, something to identify with personally (I believe it was the drama about George Washington framing colleagues to declare Baskerville was ugly and garish when it was actually Garamond). Thank Thor. Thank Loki. I’ve found a new romance author: Falon Ballard. (Read the book to understand the Marvel references.)

Creative Play

Vanessa is a journalist who has the opportunity to be promoted. Amber, her friend convinces her to go away for the weekend to her parent's Inn in Washinton. While she is there, they ran into Martin, a mystery writer who has been publishing books but who has not given any interviews for five years due to a bad experience. Here enter Vanessa, who will do the impossible to get the interview and therefore the promotion. In exchange, Martin asks her to help with the Founders Day event the city is planning. Just My Type” reads exactly as if Garfield proposed “a book about fonts,” and then, upon securing a publishing deal, set out to learn enough about fonts to write a book about it. The result is a well-intentioned but sloppy book that focuses on anecdotes and personalities, instead of providing an organized introduction to the world of type. There are two open-door bedroom scenes near the end, so beware if that’s not your thing, and also a whole lot of F-bombs. Why foul language in romance novels is such a trend these days, I don’t know. But keep it in mind if you don’t like the word. Overall: I love romcoms! Unfortunately we cannot watch great written ones on our streaming services but thankfully there are authors like Fallon Ballard who can create swoon-sweet stories to make us enjoy the true taste of romcoms! Highly recommended!
