About this deal

I really saw a lot of potential in this book and despise all this I still loved hunter a little bit but omg he was one of the biggest manwhore I saw in all the books I read. Burkett Expects to Slug His Way to Top of Eastern Heap,” Hartford (Connecticut) Courant, April 20, 1924: 38. And for him to then suddenly judge the man towards the end of the book for also driving drunk, felt very hypocritical. The plot was not really that intriguing ..i lost interest at 75% but kept on reading but it was not really that worth it so.. I especially was not a fan of the drunk driving in this. It wasn't just a one time occurrence, it was a daily and intentional act that spanned 4 years. The fact that everyone in that town tolerated it?! And not once did the bartender take away his keys? That kind of behavior is not okay. I don't care if he is still grieving or whatever, putting your life AND other's lives in danger is not right.

We were promised a strong, sexy, and traumatized love interest with Hunter; All I noticed was the trauma. I was not rooting for him in the slightest. He was hateful, arrogant, boastful, and just angry. I loved Winter & Payton, and found them to be great women I wish we got to see just a little bit more of. Lawyers Trying for Job with the Boston Braves,” Brooklyn (New York) Daily Eagle, April 9, 1924: 28. James Hunter Lane Sr. died on September 13, 1994, at the age of 94, at his home in Memphis, from heart disease. 36 At the time he was the second-oldest living former Brave behind Tim McNamara. 37 He is buried at the Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis. He was survived by his wife of 67 years, Lucille, and three daughters, Mary, Camille, and Lucille, and his son, James Hunter Lane Jr.After they kissed for the first time the rest of the book is basically all s** scenes and absolutely no character development. He just stopped drinking even though he had a serious drinking problem all bc he’s dating her? And their relationship just simply worked with no issues even though they both have incredible amounts of issues??? There were multiple time where I was just yelling at Hunter to just stop being mean:/ He was very rude but that is what made him so real. His pain and suffering really got to you, so you understand why he is the way he is.

Now for the heroine she was perfect and I really loved her and If we take away all the ow drama the book was literally perfect im sad she ruined it with her owns hands because him being with all these ow did nothing to bring more love or romance to the book. It just ruined everything I didn’t even enjoy them kissing and having sex because he went to see her only a couple of hours after he had a threesome.John Hunter, Thomas Lane, and Vivek Jampala have spent the bulk of their legal careers collaborating together on criminal cases. Despite working for separate offices, it was seldom that one of these attorneys would try a case, litigate a motion, or pursue an appeal without the help and input of the other two. In their early careers, they routinely worked in concert with one another to draft briefs and motions for many of South Texas’ finest criminal defense attorneys, granting them valuable insights from experienced professionals and helping them stay on the cutting edge of criminal defense practice. I sought out validation from people who didn't like me. I gave second chances to people who didn't deserve it. I turned a blind eye to manipulation because I mistook it for affection." AGAIN- I have to reiterate- The marketing of this book. I think if it would have been marketed more like an “Ugly Love” by Colleen Hoover, I wouldn’t have had such a visceral reaction to all of the atrocities Hunter commits but because it was marketed(on TikTok by the author) as this great love story, it was so disappointing. The author made it seem(on TikTok) like we were getting this amazing book boyfriend who stands up for our heroine against this awful ex but that’s not what happens. Her whole marketing plan was only derived from the last 20% of the book and seems really manipulative now. During the Braves training camp, Lane swapped law anecdotes with fellow ballplayer and attorney-in-waiting Wade Lefler (whose pinch hits would help the Washington Senators to the 1924 pennant). Lane had already successfully tried cases in 1923 and had been appointed a judge in his hometown of Buntyn, Tennessee. 21 By April, Lane was farmed to the Worcester (Massachusetts) Panthers of the Class A Eastern League. 22 There he claimed an infield spot. 23 There were also some really bad plot devices used, and I would argue that the two that bother me the most are both Macguffins-the sole purpose only to further the plot. Those would be:

This book was marketed all over TikTok as something COMPLETELY different. This is barely a romance. The author made it seem as if Hunter was going to be some avenging hero for our FMC, after a shitty ex boyfriend. Turns out Hunter was even worse IMO. Um..so i follow this author on tiktok and was really hyped about this book but * sighs * it was a let down :( I thought I knew what to expect going into this, it but it kept surprising me, in a good way, and I absolutely loved it. Marley my girl was so strong, she's such a inspiration for not giving up, I don't know what I'd be doing if I had been in her case. Next, Hunter - that boy was something else in the beginning but his character developed was beautiful. I'm so proud of everything he overcame by one by, RL Hunter Lane, lemme give u a big ass hug because idc what u say u deserve it and need it bb. "God he was broken, Hunter Lane was so broken" *crying* She's in love, he's not, she decides to leave, he realizes he made a mistake and that he loves her (randomly ??) and goes to her, they end up sleeping together and then get together. The story of his dead mother is thrown in there as a justification for everything he does. It literally has no purpose in the plot other than this. i stopped reading around halfways (for the safety of the other hundreds of passengers on that boat ok) and that man was still describing in details about his encounters with other women whilst the FMC was just like 🥰😍🥰 its ok bby i kno ur troubledHeading into 1923, it was said that Lane “will have three branches open to him—baseball, coaching, and law.” 13 In March 1923, outfielder and team captain Lane was denied another year of baseball eligibility for the University. 14 So he signed a new pro contract with the Pioneers. 15 In the same month, he was granted a state license to practice law. 16 So Miss Marie-France Leger did a spectacular job marketing this book on tiktok the last few months, and I was so excited to finally get my hands on it. Unfortunately, I was a little disappointed. Next, I love their relationship sm oh my oh my. 😭😭😩😩 also the bookshelf scene... damn. "You said, you liked romance, didn't you Bambi?" Devon is a fan of Lane's work and shows some desire to specialize in oncology. He becomes embroiled in the plan to expose Lane when Nic shares her discoveries of Lane's insurance fraud scheme that includes over-treating her patients and falsifying cancer diagnoises. Hunter was fixated on hating Marley because she was from the city, because his ex was also from the city?? It came across as very misogynistic. His anger was misplaced, and was not excusable, even with the trauma of loosing his mom. I expected so much groveling when he realized he liked her, but she just... caved?

Marley has titanium balls, seriously! She may have had low self esteem amongst other things because of her parents but she took no crap from Hunter. After everything he did she still fought and I give her props for that #Respect! I didn't really care if Hunter was hooking up with Britt and other girls prior to getting together with Marley. Like he wasn't exclusive with anyone. Mans was a single man and there is such a thing as casual sex and dating. He did nothing wrong in that aspect, he wasn't leading anyone on and he wasn't cheating. In mid-August, he was sent down to the Pittsfield (Massachusetts) Hillies, also in the Eastern League. 28 Lane ended the Eastern League campaign playing in eight games for Worcester and 24 for Pittsfield, with a combined .254 average. 29 Nonetheless, in September the Braves exercised their option on him for 1925. 30I went into this book with really high hopes, and was very disappointed. If you like A LOT of ow drama & a doormat FMC, this one might be for you. Dodo’ Lane is Sold to Boston Nationals,” Knoxville (Tennessee) News-Sentinel, September 10, 1923: 3. Also, his dad, stepmom, best friend and everyone in town should get arrested for letting him drive drunk practically every day. Like yea I get that your mom died but why are his family/friends normalizing the fact that he goes to the bar every single day and also don’t speak up when he drives drunks every day even though a DRUNK DRIVER was the reason the mom died???? I seriously never hated a love interest until I read this book. Which brings me to another problem I have with this book: Marley. I disliked this character so much! She was not compelling at all, and she was so... bland. Whenever Marley had a problem, she would either run away, or cry. When she called the cops on Hunter for driving drunk... she apologized to him later? And when she had made the decision to leave, Hunter shows up on her doorstep with a half-hearted apology. And she forgives him, on the spot, and then sleeps with him? It felt like Marley was not a person, she was just subject to Hunters whims. University of Tennessee football and baseball star Hunter “Dodo” Lane darted in and out of professional ball in less than 24 months, yet still ascended to the major leagues. The infielder became a “one-hit wonder” with a 1-for-15 performance for the 1924 Boston Braves, before opening a successful politically-involved law practice in the Memphis area.
