This trend pretty much goes on and on about most types of pond liners and it can be a little confusing. Personally, I try not to overthink it too much and choose my koi pond liner based on a few basic things-

RPE pond liners are another common option for ponds. RPE offers many of the advantages of HDPE, with fewer downsides. Most pond liners are large sheets that are made out of various materials, such as PVC, HDPE, EPDM, and Butyl. These liners give you a lot of flexibility when it comes to fitting them to the shape of the hole that you’ve dug for your pond, but some materials are stronger than others, which we’ll go into a little later on in this article. Polyethylene is remarkably durable - it retains its properties in the depths of winter but can be heat-welded for an exceptionally tight seam. Polyethylene may become brittle when exposed to direct sun over time but added UV stabilizers can eliminate this issue. Butyl is a type of rubber used in tyres and inner tubes. It’s light, soft yet very hard wearing and is ideal as a pond liner. Preformed pond liners are made of a firmer material and are already shaped, so the size and shape of the liner dictate the size and shape of the pond. A preformed pond liner may be a little more expensive, but it’s a great choice for first-time pond owners because of the ease of installation.
