About this deal

Clipper Measurements. Sizes of clipped brushes can be displayed in the 2D view while clipping. This is useful for clipping brushes to a particular size, or for matching with a specific texture. Find and Replace. Functions to both search and replace for text in any entity name, parameter, input, or output. Lightmap density describes how dense the lightmap texture is on a particular face. This is necessary to control because giving all faces a uniform density would be inefficient to calculate.

Sprite Preview. Sprites are now automatically previewed in the 3D view, along with animation. Frame rate and scale key values are correctly reflected in the preview, eliminating the need to compile and run the map in the game engine when placing sprites. Light sources come in several different types, with different behaviors in how light dissipates. You can place light sources into your map with the Entity Tool in Hammer from the left-hand toolbar - conveniently, it has a stylized light bulb as an icon. For instance, in the first map of Half-Life 2 there is a corridor that a civil protection guard will escort the player through when he is being brought in for interrogation (or what-not). Examination of the lighting will reveal that Valve has kept the psychological effects in mind while setting it. The corridor starts off with a standard tungsten lamp (with a warm glow), directly followed by a fluorescent light (with an uneasy glow). This combination is at most very rare in real life, because it would require that the architect would suddenly change his mind while designing the corridor, or the electrician running out of light fixtures. It is more likely that Valve (or the Combine) wanted to achieve the effect that one would be walking from a safe environment to an unsafe one. Reflections would thus be of a simplified version of that very room, with correct apparent depth and everything

We put 27 outdoor solar lights to the test in our testing lab in Des Moines, Iowa. Expert testers evaluated lights based on their quality, brightness levels, dusk-to-dawn sensors, and motion detection abilities, if relevant. We also put the lights through durability tests, placing them in the freezer, sprinkling them with water, and dropping a golf ball on them to see if they held up.

Distributed under the name Worldcraft on the retail Half-Life CD, Hammer 3.x is the official GoldSrc mapping tool. id Tech 2 support is removed. Volumes can be rotated and can overlap - can set the priority to make one override another (e.g. a dark player-accessible box surrounded by sunlit outdoors) Why You Should Get It: These in-ground lights sit flush with your terrain for a minimalist look that is barely noticeable during daytime. The basic light entities do not come with a visible representation (e.g. a lightbulb). For that, you need a prop. See HL2 Light Props for a list. Others use solar lighting as a portable lighting option. Jameson says, "A lot of people who enjoy camping outdoors typically opt for solar-powered lanterns and bulbs as they are portable and self-sustaining for their power." Battery

Added the Game Configurations tab. Support for loading multiple .wal and .pak files. Browse textures per container. Edit the Quake 2 surface attributes. If you try to load or create a new level in the Hammer [ Clarify] and the viewports don't show the standard grid, it's possible you just need to press ⇧ Shift+ R to toggle the grid, so go ahead and try that first. Can be very expensive; usually only used for special occasions (e.g. player flashlight) or for very small light sources (glows on ammo clips, resin etc.) The basic light entities do not come with a "glow" as you'd expect to see in a foggy or misty area. To provide this, either compile and run the map with HDR enabled, or add a point_spotlight (with dynamic lighting off unless needed), env_lightglow , or env_sprite entity. Why You Should Get It: If you simply want a no-frills spotlight, this solar light set provides great value for its features.

Note: The textures in each pair of overlays are functionally indistinguishable, but cosmeticaly, the floor antline looks cheaper after you walk from it some length. Step 3 with previous version of Hammer without some modification and workarounds (such as using Left 4 Dead Authoring Tools/ Left 4 Dead 2 Authoring Tools or editing VMF files). Installing these lights is quite simple, with one option being to simply connect the light to a spoke and drive the spoke into the ground. Screws come with the light if you'd rather mount it, providing a bit of flexibility in how you're able to put the lights to use.Your light won’t have a visual source, however—it just appears from nowhere. You’ll be able to fix this in the next article. When editing a face, you can control the Lightmap Resolution Bias. This is a value that will influence how large the lightmap texture space is for that face relative to the rest of the map. Brightening up your outdoor living area can drastically improve the way your garden or patio looks, and it might even inspire you to spend more time outside when the weather is warm. One great way to illuminate your outdoor space is with solar lights.
