Archie's absence hasn't been all that noticeable, and not just because none of the characters are missing him. His involvement in the stories the series tells is so unimportant and insignificant so much of the time, it doesn't feel any different than before, except he isn't being shoehorned into scenes where he isn't needed. Plus, Reggie's presence in Veronica's life is currently dragging her down a dark path that's far too similar to the path that her father went down. If the Veronica from the early seasons could see herself now, she would likely be disappointed, since she's just as mixed up in shady business as Hiram was.

Ditto with Kevin Keller. In some crazy way, we have never actually done Kevin's boyfriend from the comic book, who was Clay Walker. So when we got to season seven, we thought, "Oh, what if we finally introduced the guy from the comic books who is Kevin's iconic, canonical boyfriend?" Early seasons sidelined the likes of Kevin Keller in favour of homoerotic subtext and countless abs, but things have swiftly improved in that regard, particularly with the introduction of characters like Toni Topaz who represents one half of Riverdale's most beloved ship, #Choni. It wouldn't have been difficult to include her in this supernatural twist either. She just needed to be near Archie's house when it exploded. This would have brought Veronica in on the story while solidifying the friendship between this core four that has almost always been, well, non-existent. But, the mysteries remain the focal point of this show, which means that Archie will never feel like the person he is proclaimed to be. His efforts to rebuild and better the town will never get the same focus or be treated with the same level of importance, nor will it ever be as intriguing as the stories given to other characters. Sadly, the only thing Archie will be remembered for on Riverdale is taking his shirt off and getting into violent situations.
