About this deal

With such a wide range of colours, designs and uses, it's no wonder Ruffwear is one of our best selling brands! However, what makes these harnesses truly stand out is their adjustability, meaning the vast majority of dog breeds will get a great fit. We suggest using a soft towel slung under the belly if additional support is required in the meantime. A reusable canvas shopping bag slit down the sides also makes a handy temporary sling / harness for three legged dog. Find instructions for DIY Tripawd sling here. The Ruffwear Flagline harness is a game-changer for three legged dogs. It’s the leanest and lightest harness yet, and the only Ruffwear harness that slips over your dog’s head making it the easiest to put on front-leg amputees – regardless of which leg is missing. The Ruffwear Flagline Harness is a Game-Changer for Helping Tripawd Dogs And let's not forget about safety. The harness features a debris-resistant liner to keep your dog comfortable and three leash attachment points for added control. The reflective trim and light loop for the Ruffwear Beacon Light ensure your dog is visible, even in low-light conditions. Below is an image of the Groundbird Gear harness for comparison with the Flagline Harness pictured above. Padded Handle

The size small Flagline Harness is intended for dogs with chest circumferences from 22 to 27 inches. Despite Glia being on the high side of that range, we still had plenty of strap left for future adjustments after fitting the harness to Glia’s current size/shape.I gave it 4 stars only because I wish the material came up higher on the sides. There’s a lot of exposed strap and I feel it make chafe him on long walks. A nice touch might be a matching sleeve that can be slipped over the strap (and maybe some velcro to attach it to the existing material) to provide some extra padding. I might look for some velcro luggage handle covers to do the job. This means your dog no longer has to balance on two legs when you put it on! Other Great Flagline Harness Features: The Ruffwear flagline was tested in L/XL which fits true to size. It was tested mainly on hikes and in rivers and similar to give evidence to what it was designed for. If you walk in high traffic areas, this is a great feature. Here in Minnesota, it is already dark by the time we walk throughout the fall, winter, and early spring. Reflective trim helps us keep safe on our nightly walks. Overall Review

Not all harnesses are suitable for all dogs, or all conditions. So, here’s a few things that I see as being potentially problematic in regards to the flagline. Dirt dwellers When we researched different harness types for hiking dogs, we found a couple of research studies that concluded that the less surface area a harness covered, the less it altered a dog’s natural gait. (Our review of this research can be found in our post “3 Tips for Choosing the Best Harness for Your Dog’s Next Adventure.”) At 277g, this harness? Is lighter than my go to harness for Indie (the perfect fit), which doesn’t have as much containment as this one does. It doesn’t offer these features. For Ruffwear to have achieved this within this weight? Is pretty darn impressive. When the slider is near the body of the harness (the piece with the Ruffwear logo on), it is at its smallest setting. When the slider is near the chest plate (the piece with the fabric loop on it), it is at its largest aperture.I love this harness for reactive dogs, it’s the worst fear of a lot of people that their dog should escape, and cause damage, or flee. And well, this one seriously takes the biscuit for control & containment. The long design means that you have support, it means that you have the knowledge your dog isn’t going to escape. Dog Families Who Hike

But I’d actually yet to test it for myself. So, I got in touch with ruffwear, and asked if I could get one for review. They said yes, and I’ve been testing it out on my hikes and wanders with Indie to see how it stands up to it’s design purpose and what you may be able to do with it. This harness is solid. The fabric doesn’t snag easy. The base plate (chest plate? Whatever you want to call it underneath your dog!) is not only great protection, but it’s also wonderfully effective for spreading and containing your dog if you need to lift them. Dog Sports Dogs Ruffwear is a well-known company in the world of dog-apparel and harnesses. If you have read many articles on this blog (or if you follow us on social media), you may have noticed that our dogs are frequently photographed wearing Ruffwear Webmaster Harnesses. The Webmaster Harness fits both dogs well and has held up to a lot of abuse on hiking trails. So when Ruffwear announced an updated version of the Webmaster Harness, we couldn’t wait to get our hands on the new Flagline Harness.I’m a firm believer in having one thing that can do everything. I guess that makes the flagline the swiss army knife of harnesses, huh? Lightweight

The bottom panel disperses the weight of dogs in the harness, for additional comfort when lifted. The bottom also adds stability to the harness, further minimizing shifting. Some days it is just too hard to get two dogs looking at the camera at the same time. ???? But I still like how this picture turned out. The pups enjoyed a lovely snowy walk at Wild River State Park today. Glia was super thankful that it was warm enough to leave her boots at home. And I was happy my fingers weren't freezing while I took pictures. #pawsitivelyintrepid #mnstateparks #wildriverstatepark #exploremn #dogfriendship #myfurryfamily I wanted to review the Ruffwear Flagline for you because I know this harness is such wonderful quality, and not only is it quality? I’ve seen it in a number of practical, real-life situations where it thrives. It’s a tool I recommend regularly to my clients based on these experiences. The front clip leash attachment is great for helping train dogs who like to pull while they hike. The Front Range Harness has had this front leash attachment point for years and people have been asking for a Webmaster style harness with this attachment. So for those of you who have been asking, this harness looks like a great solution. A note about front-leg amputees: The Flagline is truly the best harness for front-leg Tripawds yet. But keep in mind that without that fourth leg, all harnesses may shift a bit during the day. When sized and properly adjusted, however, all harnesses we carry have minimal shifting.
