About this deal

As the '90s rolled on, even the O.G hip-hop started to get phased out. While Goldberg started to direct music videos for Maestro, The Dream Warriors and others, he passed EC producing duties onto Sharon Kavanaugh.

The venue was originally the Palace Cinema, then the Top Hat Club run by Bernard Manning and then a bingo hall. It became a heavy metal club in the 1970s until punk arrived there in 1976, [1] and Richard Boon [2] and Alan Robinson [3] started promoting nights there. However the building was in a poor state of repair and was closed in late 1977 due to objections from the fire service and Manchester City Council. [4] It re-opened briefly again in 1978 [5] as the New Electric Circus but by 1980 the building was demolished and replaced by housing. [6]The same revolutionary touches were applied across the board - whether it was for EC, CityPulse or The New Music. These are nearly the last of the sessions that I recorded earlier this year in preparation for the Ramsgate Music Hall gig (which has just celebrated 10 years as a venue!). I’m hoping to get one more release out by the end of the year and there are some other pieces I’m saving for a label compilation that may come in cassette form in the new year which will tie up this phase of my label, Infinite Illectrik. There are a few more pieces floating around though; one will be coming out on a compilation early next year, another two will be part of a physical release on a new label at some point in 2024 too, more on that when I’ve finished the design. The Quadraphon is getting a companion soon which may change the whole set up and I also want to work on the hole in the catalogue, ii03, which still isn’t underway and is a very different beast. In fact, Maestro's experience on the show was career defining - after being asked to appear on the merit of some tapes he had sent in, Wes was baffled by the attire of some EC dancers ("Soul Train meets Dukes of Hazard" is how he described it recently), and wasn't sold on a second appearance. The show's success was predicated on many factors - Monika Deol (who was also doing time simultaneously on MuchMusic's RapidFax and Citytv's entertainment desk) was the breakaway cult star, but the EC dancers also became local heroes. The Electric Circus was a regular feature on ‘So It Goes’, Tony Wilson’s half hour television programme, showing live performances from a number of punk bands, giving them much needed exposure and helped to recruit new converts on a weekly basis.

As the series started to blow up, so did the calibre of guests, and the volume of curious onlookers outside the windows of 299 Queen. As nothing came of Frankie mk1 I’d hazard a guess that Ambrose sent the recordings (or some of his own maybe?) to John and used the name? Holly released at least one solo single between Frankie mk1 and 2 so there was a gap, it’s a pity I didn’t see if there was a date on the letter. Looking up Reynolds on Wikipedia shows that he was pretty active on the music scene around Liverpool, later teaming up with ex-Big In Japan vocalist Jayne Casey to form Pink Industry and starting Zulu Records together, but one paragraph stood out: A: The Electric Circus is a thought-provoking novel that explores the anxieties of modern life through the metaphor of the circus. The book's protagonist is a young man struggling to find his place in the world and grappling with issues of identity, purpose, and belonging. I’m so excited, after all these decades to hear from people who got to experience the the most amazing Electric Circus, as I did. By far dancing myself into a dazed, psychedelic trance, while absorbing the magical energy of the Chambers Brothers sing ‘Time’, was right up there in my top ten of life altering experiences. I was a runaway, living with new friends in the Village. After throwing around a bunch of ideas for the show (including possibly shooting it in an already established Toronto night club), they settled on rooting it firmly at 299 Queen Street West, where people on the street could watch. The series was notable for many things, including featuring a multi-racial group of dancing youth, something forbidden on television at the time in North America. Except maybe PJ Phil on YTV's The Zone or Speakers Corner, Toronto has no greater icon of pure 1990s television culture than Electric Circus, the high energy dance show that aired on Citytv and MuchMusic between 1988 and 2003. There are many ads and other posters for the Electric Circus on the web but few are in high quality unfortunately. The main logo typeface (and possibly a lot of the ad layouts) was designed by design company Chermayeff-Geismar, a world-reknown practice who are still in business today. The book is a powerful and thought-provoking exploration of the anxieties and uncertainties of modern life. The use of metaphor and exploration of universal themes make it a timeless piece of literature that is sure to resonate with readers for years to come. Lipton's skillful storytelling, character development, and use of vivid imagery create an immersive reading experience that leaves a lasting impression on readers. A Must-Read for All

Design work has been relentless since September (I’m not complaining) with multiple zoetropes in the works, an album for The Real Tuesday Weld under a new alias, work for De:tuned that should be announced in December and work for Castles In Space. This is alongside writing assignments for the second Dust & Grooves book, my weekly Mixcloud Select uploads and research for another book. We had Electric Circus play at our wedding and from the first dance to the last they created a fantastic atmosphere and had the dance floor full all night. I have so many people commented on how good the band were. I would highly recommend Jason and Electric Circus. Thanks again guys. The Pistols themselves played at the Circus twice in December 1976,on the 9th and 19th,as part of the disrupted and shambolic Anarchy tour,(the 19th was a hastily rearranged gig after the original venue in Guildford banned them),cementing the close relationship between Manchester bands and their London brothers. All South London vinyl heads should head to Deptford this weekend for the opening of Upside Down Records.

The book features a cast of well-developed characters, each with their own motivations, fears, and desires. The protagonist is a deeply engaging and flawed character, navigating the trials and tribulations of adulthood with authenticity and honesty. The supporting cast of characters is also well-drawn, contributing to the overall sense of richness and complexity in the book.
