TrekMovie received the first four ships in Eaglemoss’s new XL Edition line of Star Trek starship models. After getting up close and personal with these ships, this reviewer is left with but one word: wow. The earliest prototypes are 3D printed in resin and, once approved by Eaglemoss and CBS, were manufactured using a variety of injection, vacuum, and compression molding techniques. [14]Last summer Eaglemoss Ltd., the prolific licensee that sold a multitude of Star Trek products through their Hero Collector brand, ceased operations and went into receivership (akin to bankruptcy). Now some of the popular product lines are getting a new life under new management from two different companies. The Build the Enterprise-D program is being taken over by De Agostini through their Fanhome brand, which has just officially relaunched the program. And later this year, models from the popular line of Hero Collector Star Trek Starships will go on sale again through Heathside’s Master Replicas brand. TrekMovie spoke to Eaglemoss’ former head of licensed products Ben Robinson who is working as a consultant with both companies. Building the Enterprise-D again with Fanhome The Standard Edition-sized starship models are produced in "box scale", designed to fit within a standardized box size for sale at a common price point. The boxes for almost all of these starships (the Standard, Bonus and Shuttlecraft issues) measure 168 × 127 × 51 mm. Smaller (and taller) boxes (measuring 123 × 101 × 80 mm) were supplied for Standard issues 10, 58, 94, 96, 109, 127, 146, and 180, and Bonus issue 22. A larger box (measuring 176 × 176 × 80 mm) was made for the Bajoran Solar-Sailor and another (measuring 164 × 138 × 86 mm) encompassed the Xindi-Insectoid Warship. The dimensions of the boxes for the Special and XL Edition starship models vary greatly. Based on public filings with the UK Companies House, Eaglemoss Limited and its parent company Eaglemoss Capital both appeared to be struggling financially and were saddled with millions in debt. They appear to have received a loan from Santander in April 2022, but now it seems they might have simply run out of money and needed creditor protection. And, if they owed money to the manufacturing companies in China, that may explain why it has been so hard for them (and us) to receive any parts lately. UPDATE December 28, 2022: I spoke with Fanhome and should receive information to share on this development in the new year.
