Disney+'s new show shows you exactly what that fresh hell would be like through the plain, very ordinary Jen.Creator Bisha K Ali has done something exceptional with this Marvel show. Ms Marvel follows the coming-of-age origin story of Pakistani American newbie superhero Kamala Khan. Her powers may be new to her, but they are rooted in something much older. As ever, danger is lurking. It's a rich, cultural expression of Pakistani heritage that meets cosmic wonder. The figurines are made of porcelain, and the process is similar to that use to make Hummel figurines. Individual pieces are molded, put together, and fired in an oven. Then they are painted and fired again. Adapting Lewis Carroll’s already iconic book wasn’t an easy task, particularly with how crazy the imagery gets. This didn’t bother Disney, who was more than up to the challenge and created perhaps the most definitive version of this wild story. A Small Light is the extraordinary story of Miep and Jan Gies — two ordinary people who went to extremely dangerous lengths to help protect vulnerable Jews during the Nazi occupation of World War II, including Anne Frank and their family. A Small Light follows their journey intimately, making their experience as close to relatable as possible. Gangs of London and Peaky Blinders star Joe Cole stars as Jan Gies, with Bel Powley cast as Miep. Liev Schreiber also plays Otto Frank. If you don't cry by the end, you have no heart.
As I await the next Disney Renaissance, I've put together a list of Disney Parallels for those hungry for more 2D Animated Classics. That list can be found here:I From the sparkling wonder of the Seven Dwarf's Jewel Mine to the majestic spires of the Beast's Castle, Disney films have taken us to some of the most wonderful places imaginable. The Walt Disney Classics Collection celebrated these unforgettable settings with Enchanted Places, beautifully crafted sculptures that recreate the worlds where the magic unfolds. Sometimes, a nice fictional palate cleanser is just what you need after binging your way through something like Y: The Last Man (also on Disney+). The National Geographic collection is ideal for such situations — a non-fictional treat blending entertainment with education. The Sword in the Stone takes inspiration from European mythology and adapts the tale of King Arthur and Merlin the Wizard (albeit in Arthur’s younger years). It wasn’t hugely well received then, but it gave us those awesome swords to pull out of the ground at Disney Parks. It’s also notable for being the first Disney movie with a score by the Sherman Brothers. Aladdinwas another smash hit by Walt Disney Studios and follows the titular character as he embarks on a classic, magical adventure. Robin Williams as the beloved character of Genie is the clear highlight, but the songs from Alan Menken, including “Friend Like Me,”“Prince Ali,” and “A Whole New World,” are certainly nothing to sniff at. Aladdin remains an insanely popular film, and its live-action remake (also called Aladdin) is currently the 37th highest-grossing film of all time.
