About this deal

The Cantabrian cyclopes was called the Ojáncanu. An over 10-foot tall monster, the Ojáncanu had one eye and two rows of sharp teeth. They also had 10 fingers on each of their hands and a mane of unruly red hard. The female Ojáncanu, called the Ojáncana, looked just like the males except they didn’t have a beard. Chris: Bleh. While losing the bright yellow trunks was a move in the right direction, going from blue and yellow to blue and white was a pretty uninspired decision. This is like if vanilla ice cream was a costume. The “X” across the chest makes sense, but there are too many unnecessary lines–especially the one above his visor (which should have been a metallic white to keep with the theme). Score: 6/10 However, the cyclopes also credited with forging and building some of the most important objects in Greek mythology. Aside from Zeus’ thunder and lightning bolts, they forged Poseidon‘s trident and Artemis’ bow and arrow. In addition, they created the cap of invisibility, also called the helmet of Hades. 12 The hero Perseus wearing the cap of invisibility forged by the cyclopes, as he holds the head of Medusa. Image source: Unknown. As the legend goes, Uranus took a disliking to his monster children, and he blamed Gaia for who they were. Thus, Uranus decided he would imprison them all in the Earth, which so happened to be their mother, Gaia. (By some accounts, this prison was Tartarus.) Forrest: This is it. This is the look. I love that X-visor (it makes as much sense as anything else in comics, IMO) The leading lines from the Astonishing suit are upped a notch in a cool, effective way and the colors are totally in keeping with the larger motifs for the character. I think it would be slightly better without the belt, the perfect end result of the white-and-blue suit but other than that, this is my ideal Cyclops costume. Score: 9/10

Eric: I have mixed feelings on this outfit. I think how good it looks largely depends on who’s drawing it. Jim Lee could pull it off, but… well… that was Jim Lee. I don’t think Scott is a character whose designs benefit from having lots of unnecessary details. The pouches, the leg straps… a lot about this just looks kind of awkward. Score: 6/10 Forrest: Nope. Nope. Uh-oh. Uh-oh. Whoops. There’s way too much going on here. I’ve no doubt this costume was a nightmare for artists with all the over-the-top detailing and worst of all it doesn’t even look comfortable or that cool. The chafing! Take care of yourself, ‘Clops! Score: 1/10 While we cannot promise that this costume will make you spontaneously mutate, we can promise that you will love looking great in this X-Men Adult Cyclops Costume! The jumpsuit fits snugly and comfortably and includes all the true-to-comics details that you are looking for. The faux-leather belt and cuffs add that extra bit of texture that will set off the rest of the costume, while the mesh-covered view port in your mask will allow you to see fairly well. All in all, you will be doing a sight better than Cyclops in the comics! Super Good Eric: I really like Scott’s classic look. It’s very simple and streamlined, so your attention isn’t too distracted from the most crucial element, his visor. Yellow pops well against dark blue, and I actually like the pirate boots. They’re silly, but hey, so is the character (and I mean that lovingly). Score: 8/10

Hitotsume-kozō are also unlike the other cyclopes-like creatures in that they aren’t giants. Rather, they are the size of human children. According to Japanese legends, they resemble Buddhist monks with shaved heads and they have only one eye and a long tongue. If there’s one thing superheroes usually aren’t, it’s ordinary. Their over-the-top flair extends not only to their powers and morals, but to their fashions as well. There are few super teams where this is more the case than the X-Men. In honor of Cyclops Week, we’re turning our attention to just some of the many costumes Scott Summers has worn through the years. Which of his looks is the best? Our panel of fashion judges, Cyclops Week Curator Chris Hassan, Content and Media Manager David Brooke, Contributor Jason Segarra, Contributor Forrest Hollingsworth and Manga Editor Eric Cline decide! The classic blue-and-yellow costume Polyphemus awoke, screaming in agony. He screamed so loud that the other cyclopes on the island heard him. But when they called out to him, asking what is wrong, Polyphemus replied, “Nobody has harmed me.” Concluding that nothing was wrong, the other cyclopes did not come to his aid. 10

As in the love triangle between Polyphemus, Galatea, and Acis – the cyclops reminds us of the toxicity of jealousy and its destructiveness. Inhospitableness In 1995, the X-universe changed dramatically. Due to Legion accidentally killing his father, Charles Xavier, in the past, he never lived to form the X-Men and history reshaped itself accordingly. In the new timeline, Apocalypse ruled the United States with an iron fist, while the X-Men were led by Magneto and Rogue. Well-known characters often appeared in unfamiliar roles, which was certainly the case for Cyclops. "Prelate Summers" wasn't the leader of the X-Men. Instead, he worked alongside Mister Sinister to serve the cause of Apocalypse, although readers soon found out that Scott's heroic side wasn't completely absent in this new reality: he had been helping people escape the slave pens for years. Chris: That time Cyclops became a Nightwing cosplayer. While all of the Phoenix Five costumes were, let’s say interesting, this was a pretty solid evil-Scott Summers look. It’s menacing yet regal, which is perfect for a Phoenix-powered Cyclops who decided it was just time to take over the planet. The little red thong was certainly an interesting choice. What is with artists’ need to cover Scott’s crotch? Score: 8/10Chris: When the time came for the original X-Men to ditch their blue-and-yellow school uniforms and become individuals… Scott did very little to mix it up. But you know what? It works for Slim! It’s hard not to love the costume Cyke wore in so many classic X-Men stories, but the bright yellow underwear and pirate boots are certainly an interesting choice. It would take a few decades, but Cyclops eventually set this look right. Score: 8/10 Jason: Though I like this better than his first “generic X-Man” uniform, there are definitely some issues to be taken here. I don’t mind the thunder trunks, but the pirate boots and gloves are a no-no. Similarly, I don’t like the full head condom. Dude has shoulder length hair in most depictions, that has to be hot and uncomfortable in a fire fight. Still, this is probably the most iconic of Cyke’s looks. It’s clean, simple and not flashy–just like Cyclops. Score: 7/10 The power of Cyclops' optic blasts is well-known. Less well-known is that he also has the power to make readers' eyes bleed: at least that's the effect that was achieved by this garish and short-lived outfit that only appeared in one issue, "X-Men" #35 by the creative team of Fabian Nicieza and Liam Sharp. The issue sees Scott and Jean have their honeymoon interrupted when they assist with S.H.I.E.L.D.'s attempt to deal with a powerful mutant.

So, like the story of Odin, for some, the cyclops symbolizes our ability to connect to God or Source, no matter our Earthly limitations. You might like these other articles on UniGuide: Picture this. Giant Sentinels roaming the broken down streets. They blast anyone down who doesn't fit their idea of what humanity should be. If you're a little bit different than normal people, they might just blast you to ashes because they think you're a mutant. If you wear any kind of spandex superhero suit, you're definitely going to get blasted. It's a future we're not too thrilled about...and a future that Charles Xavier and the X-Men have been fighting to stop for decades! If only there was some way you could help out... Eric: Bleh. This is just a generic, semi-badboy look with a clunky-looking metal arm. I’m bored. Score: 4/10 Forrest: I’m a big fan of these simple, X-centric (has that ever been a book title?) suits but this one misses the mark with the boots and the gloves like Jason noted. Cyclops… are you wearing the Chanel boots? Score 5/10According to the tales, the Ojáncana had long drooping breasts that touched the ground. When they ran, they slung their breasts over their shoulders. In addition to their building and smithing skills, the cyclopes could also be quite romantic… Polyphemus and Galatea Polyphemus spying on the nymph Galatea and her lover Acis. Source: Rijks Museum, Netherlands. The cyclopes possess the attribute of all-powerful brute strength, the kind that human beings can only aspire to. Skill

Forrest: I like the simple, sleek blue suit and the leading lines down the torso but I think the effect of this is kind of thrown off by that garish gold, taking an otherwise serious look askew. Score: 6/10 While there isn’t a cyclops monster in Norse mythology, some scholars compare the cyclopes to the Norse god Odin. In Norse mythology, Odin sought the power of cosmic forces and universal wisdom. In short, he wanted to know everything about everything. So, to demonstrate that he was worthy of such power, he made great sacrifices. One of those sacrifices was that Odin gave one of his eyes to Mirmir, the wisest of gods. He did this in exchange for drinking from Mirmir’s well of wisdom, or the Well of Urd. The cyclopes were not always portrayed as dimwitted brutes, however. It’s true they were credited with building the military strongholds at Tiryns and Mycenae. And to this day, we refer to buildings, walls, and other structures that are built with giant stones as cyclopean masonry.According to Greek cosmology, before the world was created, the universe was only chaos. From this chaos, the first female deity, Gaia (who was the Earth itself) was born along with two male deities. These were Tartarus, who was the “pit” or underworld, and Eros, who was the embodiment of love.
