The sheer chutzpah of that last move either makes me love this guy or despise him. Don't screw that one up. A family are getting together for their father's birthday. One of the gifts given to him is an antique monkey toy but soon afterwards the father begins to act strange. It turns out this toy was once inside the Amityville house and could be the reason for that house's curse.

Amityville Legacy pays incredible homage to the older Amityville films. In particular It's About Time, A New Generation, and Dollhouse, which were all released in the early to mid-nineties. This film definitely has the same feel as those films, but with a bit more spunk. Like those films Legacy doesn't take place in the Amityville house, however, we do get to see the Amityville house in the opening scene. The opening scene is fantastic, we get to see a retelling of the DeFeo shooting. Even though it's only 2 minutes I feel that it's crucial to the film and it's very atmospheric. Incredible exterior shots of the Amityville house and I really like the red tinted lighting used in the interior scene because it flows smoothly into the opening credit sequence. It is also widely seen in the games Fallout 4 and Fallout 76, and features in horror writer Stephen King's 1980 story The Monkey.

The film here has some decent performances from the cast and I'd argue that the director's do a nice job at keeping everything movie. A lot of times horror films like this just get to be downright slow and boring but that's really not the case here. It's well-made technically and it never gets boring. So, what is the problem with the film? Well, it lasts just 69-minutes with the ending credits.

Most of the murders happened at the end of the film. However the build-up is just right and really delivers in the end. All that character development and story before the final massacre really made you care for what was happening to the characters in the end. I was literally on the edge of my seat hoping that they survived. Interesting enough, this story takes place around Christmas time and in the final scene it starts to snow. I really liked that touch of snow in that final scene.
