About this deal

Kitchen– This little multitasker is great when you need a little extra boost in the kitchen. And at 5′ 4″ those upper cabinets are always out of reach for me! If you don’t want your stepladder chair design to be more discreet, blending into your other furniture with nary a person suspecting it, this one is for you. Object is a folding stepladder chair in disguise. I used the template from the magazine and adjusted it to make it more beginner friendly. You can easily draw the pattern on graph paper as I did. All measurements are in inches. If you really want the cutouts in the side panels you can always draw the pattern and cut off the section with a jigsaw. As this was my fist time making this I didn't want to try it as I felt it will compromise the strength ( I am of course over cautious! ) Cut a piece of wood to length and rip to width. Position on the legs, clamp in position and attach using 2″ wood screws. Step 25. Make and Attach the Seat Popular Mechanics have an excellent tutorial for those who are brave enough to try out curves. I, however am not so experienced and I wasn't sure if I could get all those connections nice and tight.

Note: I was not able to locate 5/4×2 at my local big box store. Instead, I used my table saw to rip 5/4×4 to 1-1/2″. Step 1. Cut the Front Legs Now you know how to make a ladder chair! This DIY chair serves as an extra seat and then flips to become a ladder for an extra boost! Cut two pieces of wood to length. Apply glue to the edge, clamp and allow to dry. Once the glue is dry, rip a bevel on one edge. Place the angle against the stile and mark the front edge. Rip the seat to this mark. Measure 13/16″ on one end and make a 90-degree cut. This cut would be dangerous to make on a miter saw. I used my bandsaw to make this cut, but you could also use a jigsaw or crosscut jig and a circular saw. For easy reference I have marked two sections as Section A and Section B . This would cause less confusion. It is often very annoying when you can not reach anywhere and it can also be dangerous if you stand on a small stool or table. Therefore, Scala is a very useful piece of furniture, available in many types of wood. Cut an angle on a piece of wood, measure from the top of the angle and make 90-degree cut. You can also place the wood in position, mark the angle and cut. This method will ensure the best fit. Repeat for the other side. Step 11. Cut the Front Seat Cleat Admitted, you can use a small stepladder as a seating device. It doesn’t make a great chair but it will seat you. The other way round, you can use a chair to reach high placed objects or to paint that wall but it’s maybe not the safest way to do so. Usit combines best of two worlds. It is a stylish, comfortable chair as well as a safe to use stepladder. The printable building plan includes the materials list above, detailed cut list and assembly instructions, and tips for accurate placement and clamping during assembly.

You can also place wood in position, mark the angle and cut. This method will ensure the best fit. Repeat for the other side. Step 12. That’s right, you design and build your own DIY furniture!Fortunately for me, my mom-in-law asked if I could make a step ladder for her. I told her that I don't think I could make a strong step ladder as I did not know how. This chair which I saw on instructables kept flashing in my mind and as I had the balance plywood left from another of her projects ( which is still incomplete!) , I thought I'll use it, and if it comes right, I'll surprise her with it! For the best fit of the cleats, it’s best to place the wood in position, mark the angles and cut. The top cleat is flush with the top rail, the middle cleat is flush with the top of the middle rail and the bottom rail is flush with the bottom of the bottom rail.
