If you have paid for an OBD2 scanner, the device should be fully functioning for its entire lifespan. And in case there are defects with the scanner, then you should be able to get it replaced immediately. Carista is a Bluetooth enabled OBD2 car plug and accompanying app. It works for both Android and iOS. However, an exception are BMW vehicles. If you have a BMW built between 1996 and 2001, you can still use the Carly scanner with a 20-pin adapter.Both the Carly and Carista OBD2 scanners work with cars that have OBD2 ports. As for the connection at setup time, it’s pretty fast, taking under 10 seconds. However, we faced a slight disconnection issue during testing. This device also has additional fault code reading capabilities that help it stand out from the crowd. If you do have an OBD device, simply plug it into your vehicle’s OBD2 port and connect with the application. From there, you can wirelessly connect with Bluetooth to get key features onto your smart device. There’s one thing we prefer MX+ to Bluedriver. MX+ can also work with a larger number of third-party apps, which Bluedriver can’t. Maybe because of the stronger hardware, we always see app developers recommend using their OBD2 apps with OBDLink MX+.
Is it worth it?
With either the Carly or Carista OBD2 scanner and app you can customize hundreds of features on your car*. The Car Scanner ELM OBD2 tool goes a few layers deeper than some of the other scan apps on this list. If you’re someone who has a decent knowledge of how OBD2 systems function, then this could be one of the best options for you.
But given what BlueDriver offers, it is the perfect one if you don’t work in a professional automotive environment. We were impressed because of its user-friendly interface and outstanding live data. Thanks to its strong hardware, the live data feature is so smooth and responsive, that we’ve never experienced any annoying lag. Torque Pro can also be used as a custom dashboard to provide more accurate data about your speed, fuel consumption, and engine health whilst you are driving. When operating in this mode, the app can be set up to alert you as soon as it detects any sign of an error code or problem. It doesn’t matter if you’d like to see how the engine responds as you press the accelerator, or see how the emission levels change over time, with real-time data you can do all this with a touch of a button. This real-time information can also be displayed graphically for analysis afterward.
The Carista Adapter
When we connected Veepeak BLE with the app, it was quite fast and stable because it is equipped with Bluetooth version 4.0. Carista is very cool, we love it. The fact that there’s now a smartphone app that can change such small, trivial things to make life easier is just mind blowing. Having worked at a dealership many moons ago this would normally involve booking the car in, plugging in a laptop, coding the changes, testing them…a real pain in the arse. Despite all of these features, OBD Car Doctor is extremely easy to use and anyone would be able to get a lot out of the app. Even professional mechanics would be happy to use OBD Car Doctor daily in their workshops.
