First thought was that I was buying an air mattress. Why would I want to do that? They pop! They are bulky. They smell like plastic!!!

The Nemo Tensor Insulated Sleeping Pad, like the previous models mentioned above, does have a non-insulated version with a 1.6 R-value, which again, doesn’t make the cut for a good 3-season sleeping pad in my opinion, so the insulated version wins again. Why this sleeping pad is great for side sleepers

So we have a Big Agnes King Solomon sleeping bag and were always FREEZING... Why, because the bag has no insulation on the bottom and on the cold ground, we often slid off our old pad. Looking for a solution, we bought into the "sleep system" philosophy where you could integrate a pad into the sleeping bag by sliding it into the designated space. Baffles— The outer chambers of the Air Core Ultra are bigger than in the original Air Core, which both we and Big Agnes hope will create a smoother and more stable surface. Standard size for most sleeping pads is 20” x 72”, but as side sleepers we may require a little additional space to maximize our comfort. Because we tend to shift from side to side, having a wider sleeping pad helps us stay on our pad and not roll off onto the cold ground. If you are a side sleeper that stays put, then a standard size pad might work great for you. Overall I am happy with the pad so far, and assuming it will last like my other pad, I would recommend it to anyone looking to upgrade or get a new pad.

The integrated Pillow Barn sleeve keeps our pillows in place all night. Its rectangular shape and quilted construction give that home comforter feel and allow for a variety of sleeping positions. I’m 5 feet 11 inches and my wife is 5 feet 3 inches, both with athletic builds. In the bag, we can cuddle close or spread out with ample space to sleep. The Big Agnes Sentinel 30 double sleeping bag weighs in at 3 pounds 9 ounces, which is actually lighter than our two mummy bags combined. It’s specifically built to pair with our 2-pound 3-ounce Big Agnes Q-Core SLX insulated double-wide sleeping pad. Altogether, the setup feels like home: warm, spacious, and comfortable.The bag’s 600-fill DownTek water-repellent down gives it a 30-degree rating when paired with an insulated sleeping pad. In our experience, the addition of the other’s body heat helps the bag remain comfortable in temperatures near its limit. The pad has I-Beam construction that provides stability without creating uncomfortably large humps. It’s plenty wide for two people at 40 x 72 inches and is rated to 32 degrees. Here you can see the quilted baffles in the Q-Core compared to the vertical baffles in the Insulated Air Core.

If the weight and bulk savings weren’t enough, the double bag is also darn comfortable. Its integrated pad sleeve fits our Q-Core SLX insulated double-wide sleeping pad perfectly and keeps it from sliding off. And its two cinchable hoods retain warmth without being constricting. Press down on the top of the valve flange to create separation andgrab the edge of the flange through the bottom material of the pad. Additionally, it would be useful for the “out” valve to have some control over it to let out a little bit of air at a time. This would help to get the perfect firmess without dumping all the air out in one go.I was initially rather nervous of putting the mat directly on rough or uneven ground as it certainly doesn’t feel quite as robust as it is. However, over the last couple of years I have become less precious about this. And the good news is that the double rip-stop nylon and aviation grade TPU has lived up to it’s promisese. The bottom of my mat has held strong, despite its abuse. During the 4 night trip the temperature would drop into the thirties, and at one point I woke of with ice in my cooking pot. However I never felt cold from underneath the pad, while sleeping in a 20 degree down bag with a thin base layer. Smooth entire patch to eliminate air bubbles. Press firmly to help adhesive hold. Let cure 5 minutes.
