TEMPERATURES are rising in France over a proposed change to European safety rules that would ban high concentrations of a chemical in suntan lotions because of suspicions that it may cause cancer. If adopted, the new rule would mean that the present range of Bergasol sun creams could no longer be sold in the European Union. Bergasol’s manufacturer, Bergaderm, based just outside Paris, says its products protect skin from the harmful effects of the Sun.
