About this deal

Bachmann’s Scenecraft range is boosted with more than a dozen new N scale models, whilst in OO scale several popular products return including the Two Lane Engine Shed, Depot Water Tower and Art Deco Signal Box, alongside a selection of new items. E-Z Command Plus – a new entry-point for DCC

The best advice, therefore, is that already given above; base it on a LB&SCR E2, with extended tanks. Shop the Bachmann Thomas and Friends collection at Gaugemaster, which features engines, carriages, wagons, and model vehicles from the world of Thomas the Tank Engine. Find all your favourite characters from the Island of Sodor in the Bachmann Thomas the Tank Engine collection - perfect for big kids or for special gifts your loved one will treasure for years to come. It's a pet project both to have a piece of nostalgia that I myself created as well as a challenge to build my modeling skillset; nothing more, nothing less than a simple pet project. Donald and Douglas share the same facial expression moulding, but with differently painted eyebrows. In fact I'd recommend doing this with all of the Bachmann versions of the classic Thomas cast (the ones that appeared in the books that is) bar Toby and Edward. The Hornby ones are very flawed but the face sculpts are all very good...with the exception of gormless Hornby Toby and the Hornby Edward which while good (unlike the rest of the model...), the Bachmann Edward face is spot on with the exception of the crow's feet at the corners of his eyes. In fact Bachmann Edward is near spot on in general. There are some different variants of the model with the filler caps on the sandboxes, whilst others do not. This is due to his model being a repaint of Bachmann’s existing American 4-4-0 tooling. As a result of this, the model is inaccurate in a few places. Trying to judge accuracy isn't helped by variations in the books and between the early model-based TV series and later CGI version. Even his body colour varies – Bachmann has matched the photograph in my 1970 edition of Thomas the Tank Engine, though it's too light for the early TV shows and some later books, but correct for the CGI versions. I cannot see the original pictures you posted, so I am unsure of your desired end state, but I infer you want something closer to the books. Please, though, try not to be petulant just because you don't get the answer you want in the first five minutes; most people here are only too happy to help, in my experience.

Gordon's express coaches were the first Bachmann Thomas products to be reintroduced following their discontinuation. In addition, these coaches were also given a yellow stripe to match their CGI counterparts. Bachmann Europe Plc today unveiled its Autumn 2023 British Railway Announcements, revealing new products that are set to be released over the coming months for each of its model railway ranges. With new tooling projects in N, OO and OO9 scale, more than a century of railway history is depicted by the models that make up the Autumn collection. Bachmann BranchlineThomas and Percy's HO models were recycled as different models with the same moulds in the Bachmann Junior range. Thomas' model was repainted into engines such as 2005, Billy and Stuart. Percy's model was repainted into GWR locomotives and Greg. Interestingly, they were given front couplings. The original releases of Emily's coaches had a matte coating on the roofs, but the 2017 releases have the roofs glossed. Thomas the Tank Engine was first born thanks to post-war austerity. When his young son, Christopher, asked for a model of Gordon from his bedtime stories, the Rev. Awdry found himself without sufficient material, so built a blue tank engine instead. The youngster then demanded stories for this new locomotive – the rest is history. Running is smooth, easily as good as any other RTR model, and it's possible to drive slowly for shunting. Our sample is an early example, which has seen many miles of testing at trade events, yet still works perfectly, suggesting a long life in the playroom. If your intention was to have a Thomas closer to Awdry's vision of it, the books are a better starting point, but, even there, caution is advisable. The early illustrations could be a bit dodgy. Proportions could be terrible and the appearance of engines could change! Even down to the number of wheels in the case of Henry!
