There is no proper "First Edition" of BattleTech. Instead, the inaugural game was called Battledroids, released by FASA in 1984. BattleTech Line Developer Herbert A. Beas II would later describe Battledroids as "BattleTech's predecessor", and its contents and scenarios were ruled to be not necessarily canonical for the BattleTech universe. The key feature of BattleTech is that the combat units in all these battles are roughly 12-metre-tall humanoid armoured combat units called BattleMechs, powered by fusion reactors and armed with a variety of weapons. These towering machine of destruction are led into battle by experienced MechWarriors that could either be soldier-of-fortune or part of one of the noble Great Houses fighting for supremacy. If you enjoy playing the BattleForce game included in the Interstellar Operations: BattleForce book, you may find these counters useful in your games. Certain reports suggest that the plastics used for basic 24 'Mechs in this set may differ from that used in the previous edition, that is the Classic BattleTech Introductory Box Set, but the sculpts appear unchanged. At present, there is not a way known to distinguish a miniature originating from the Classic BattleTech Introductory Box Set in 2007 and one originating from the 25th Anniversary Introductory Box Set in 2011 or 2012. Four additional venues in the Northeast United States, Southwest United States, South Central United States, and the United Kingdom have been selected, but are awaiting final confirmation from the venues before their officialannouncement. In 2022 CGL released a second edition of its BattleTech Beginner Box in connection with a variety of mercenary themed products. This edition replaced the Wolverine plastic miniature with a Vindicator plastic miniature. (The Wolverine plastic miniature was also included in BattleTech: A Game of Armored Combat, so this change removed that overlap.) This product has also been marketed as BattleTech Beginner Box (Vindicator Edition).Empire Alone is a BattleTech sourcebook providing full details of the events around the Wolf Empire and Free Worlds League from 3151 to mid-3152. Technical Readout: Dark Age expands on Technical Readout: Succession Wars, Technical Readout: Clan Invasion, and Technical Readout: Jihad by combining the ’Mechs previously found in Technical Readout: 3075, Technical Readout: 3085 (and its Supplemental), Technical Readout: 3145, Technical Readout: Irregulars, Technical Readout: Prototypes, and more. This volume features some of the most common ’Mechs from the Dark Age. Each machine is accompanied by an illustration, a description of its history, capabilities, and game stats. Operation Higashikuni The first of two included sample scenarios is here just before some of the more advanced rules, using about half the included mechs. It includes specifically what terrain you should use for it, so its easy to get running. After adding rules on buildings and battlefield support, the second scenario adds those to the game, as well as expanding out to run all the mechs included in the box. These two work very well as your first two games, as they’re not doing anything complicated with mission objectives and holding your hands through setting up terrain and extra rules.
