About this deal

The store has been operating under the name "Sex", and the product range has changed to erotic lingerie and SM articles. During this time, the first touchpoints with Sid Vicious and the later Sex Pistols can be identified, for whose outfits Westwood is largely responsible.

Westwood came to public notice when she made clothes for the boutique that she and Malcolm McLaren ran on King's Road, which became known as Sex. Their ability to synthesize clothing and music shaped the 1970s UK punk scene, which included McLaren's band, the Sex Pistols. Her first marriage dissolved and she met Malcolm Mclaren, an art student and future manager of the Sex Pistols. With Mclaren, Westwood had a second son, Joseph. Through her new partner, Westwood, who'd begun making jewelry on the side, was introduced to a new world of creative freedom and the power art had on the political landscape. "I latched onto Malcolm as somebody who opened doors for me," Westwood said. "I mean, he seemed to know everything I needed at the time." Trivia

Westwood creates another classic with the Harris Tweed collection, marking a successful turning point in her career as a designer. Westwood also introduces her collections in Paris, the first British fashion designer to do so since Mary Quandt, the inventor of the miniskirt. In 1971, Mclaren opened a boutique shop at 430 Kings Road in London and started filling it with Westwood's designs. While the name of the shop seemed to be in constant flux — it was changed five times — it proved to be an important fashion center for the punk movement. When Mclaren became the manager of the Sex Pistols, it was Westwood's designs that dressed the band and help it carve out its identity.
