Settled on 2 stars as there are other 1 stars that have annoyed me more than this. my favorite thing (a book) set in my favorite place (the boston public library)...this is everything to me. anyway. this has the pacing of a cozy mystery with the darkness and goriness of a thriller, derogatory. it's a combination that absolutely won't work for me, and the amount of ham-handed social commentary from immigration to US politics to the pandemic that's thrown in doesn't help.
