About this deal

Staff (January 1994). "What's Hot; PC Data Hits List of Top-Selling Software". Computer Gaming World. No.114. p.240. The political conflicts and magical intrigue were more fascinating and ensured I will continue on with this series to see what occurs after that explosive finale. I could see it coming but was devastated to having been proven correct! A magical Sapphic fantasy from TikTok author, Brenna Nation, perfect for fans of Six of Crows and The Dark Tide. This series contains the radiant classics, Dark Sun: Shattered Lands, and Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager.

Ty to penguin books for providing me with a copy. I believe the copy I have is a finished copy which is why I have brought up the grammar/repetition as an issue. Grammar aside, the characters were basic, there wasn’t a lot of depth to their personalities nor their actions in the book. The world building … might have gone a long way if it was taken into consideration. And the plot of the book – wasn’t anything new. It’s been done before. That’s before she meets Ashes. A dark witch with the power to destroy Sapphire’s life and kingdom. But Ashes also happens to be the only person that can help her discover the truth. A huge thank you to Brenna Nation, Penguin Random House Childrens UK, and NetGalley for an eARC in exchange for my honest opinion. The Shattered Lands comes out March 16, 2023

The language used was more suited to middle grade than YA - everything was big or small, red, blue, green etc you get the idea. Variations of "like a child" to describe how Sapphire feels she's reacting to something came up at least 14 times. Sometimes it was used twice in a chapter. I get that maybe it's meant to show that she's barely not a child but the author could've done that in a way that shows us such. This West Marches will run off Storymaker’s Expand&d system for the most part, a well thought out system that we’ve found the best way to really give everyone a chance at the table, while still being D&D at its core. I was less sold on the romance at the centre of this story, however. It was very obvious, which I did not dislike, and very sweet, which warmed by heart, but it sometimes felt a little surface-level. I never felt I truly knew where their hearts lay as they kept their true emotions secret from each other and the reader. I wanted to see them soften even more towards each other and reveal even more of their loveable characters.

The Shattered Lands is beautifully written and fast-paced. Ashes is a dangerously seductive character that I look forward to learning more about while Saphire is fiercely determined and strong willed. I adored both characters and the romance that develops between them is alluring and simply magical. Ashes and Sapphire is a super well written enemies to lovers and “touch her and I’ll hurt you” type vibe.

On the surface it’s everything I wanted from a sapphic YA book. The quotes shared seemed well written as did the general tone of the story. This was such an addictive book! I have been looking forward to reading this for so long, and was so excited when I got approved on NetGalley. This is an enemies-to-lovers, forbidden romance surrounded by political intrigue and an elemental magic system. This enchanting story of sacrifice and forbidden love completely blew me away. With little over a month until its release, I'm already craving a sequel. Sapphire is an absolute ray of sunshine (with a darker side) and her character arc throughout this book constantly had me on the edge of my seat. i regularly found myself going “just one more chapter”. she is the perfect character to follow on the journey in this book because much like the reader, she hasn’t got a clue what is going on. this meant that when information was revealed I was having the same reactions as Sapphire. I absolutely adore her and the way she is written means it’s absolutely impossible for you to not fall in love with her. Shattered Lands was released in a somewhat unfinished state in 1993, [4] and later patched to a more workable version. It was available on both floppy disk and CD-ROM, though the CD-ROM contained no additional content and was merely used to install the game to the computer's hard drive. It was later re-released as part of the AD&D Masterpiece Collection in 1996. [5] In addition, Data East was developing console ports for the Sega Saturn and Sony PlayStation for release in 1996, [6] but they were cancelled. The game was re-released in 2015 on GOG.com with support for Windows, macOS, and Linux.I really bonded with these characters and I thought the author did a stellar job of introducing the reader to them all and making us consider their plight, despite them often opposing the struggles of others. I could consider all angles of this story and it made the good/bad binaries never clear, luring me into dually bonding with and questioning them all. The stakes were never lowered due to this. the premise of this book is one of my favourites: princess x witch enemies to lovers, and while in this book the romance is definitely not the focal point of the story, the parts with the romance absolutely shine. Embrace the Plague, unleashing the power within and temporarily transforming into an all-powerful Phantom, completely changing your playstyle and gaining access to a plethora of abilities that will greatly aid you in combat. But beware, as you succumb to being a Phantom, your humanity slowly slips away.

Lots of describing of what voices sound like. In the first 2 chapters there are at least 10 examples of that. Unleash your imagination into a vast, savage world, sun-scorched and wind-scraped. This series contains the radiant classics, Dark Sun: Shattered Lands, and Dark Sun: Wake of the Ravager. Dark Sun was a runner-up for Computer Gaming World 's Role-Playing Game of the Year award in June 1994, which ultimately went to Betrayal at Krondor. The editors wrote that Dark Sun "managed to capture the uniqueness of the magic system and 'scorched earth' look of Troy Denning's Prism Pentad series of novels". [12] ll start with grammar and wording then move on to problematic content (racism & kink content) and likenesses to existing works.✖️

This is everything I wanted to read as a queer teen looking for YA fantasy. While I think the setting and relationships could definitely be more developed (hopefully in book two), it was such an exciting and addictive read. The author just knows how to build up so much tension between Sapphire and Ashes, I was pretty much bursting by the end. On top of that, the magic system was interesting and I can see it going so much further in a sequel as our characters get to know their power. This was not one plot point, it was so many to the point that I knew how the book would end and I didn’t realise why until I realised it’s literally Alina season 1.
