Os seus carrascos -- os homens que o abandonaram para morrer -- foram as parteiras duma força salvadora, gerada pela raiva que Glass acumulara contra eles. Even if you never plan on throwing hands (and claws) with our mighty ursine friends, you can learn a thing or two from Hugh Glass's ordeal. That's because, like Glass, we're all drawn to our own personal frontiers.

Due to his work with the U.S. State Department, Punke can't actually talk about The Revenant (even the movie version); this article from Maxim is the closest that we can get.Crawling, stumbling, walking, riding, and floating, Glass somehow traversed hundreds of miles of unmapped, unforgiving frontier, battling the elements, avoiding unfriendly Indian tribes, and surviving by any means necessary, driven all the while by an insatiable appetite for revenge.

I had never heard of the battle known as the Fetterman Massacre, so I wasn’t aware of how it turned out. I had to fight myself from Googling it. Punke shows throughout that regardless of the outcome of this battle, the resources of the whites will eventually prevail. Review is of a free ARE. I am a big fan of historical fiction, and this novel did not disappoint. I especially enjoy historical fiction novels that lean more towards historical fact than fiction. This novel seems to fit that mold. Overall a finely written novel; and an enjoyable read.

Although they don't appear directly, Lewis and Clark hang heavy over The Revenant. Why not learn a little more about America's first dynamic duo? Movie or TV Productions Historical fiction transports readers to another time and place, either real or imagined. Writing historical fiction requires a balance of research and creativity, and while it often includes real people and events, the genre offers a fiction writer many opportunities to tell a wholly unique story. What Fitzgerald and Bridger had done was much more than abandonment, much worse. These were not mere passerby on the road in Jericho, looking away and crossing to the other side. Glass felt no entitlement to a Samaritan's care, but he did at least expect that his keepers do no harm. It is my unfortunate responsibility to inform you of the events of the past two weeks. By their nature these events must alter-though not deter-our venture on the Upper Missouri. The makings of a western classic, Michael Punke's novel The Revenant provides muscle and sinew to the vengeful and epic tale of mountain man, Hugh Glass that even a sow Grizzly couldn't rend asunder.” — Craig Johnson, author of the Walt Longmire novels

This fascinating radio piece examines our modern view of the frontier through the lens of music. ImagesThe Frenchman, with the unlikely name of Kiowa Brazeau, watched Ashley with growing trepidation. Ashley's presence at Kiowa's remote trading post presented a rare opportunity, and Kiowa knew that the successful management of this relationship could lay a permanent foundation for his venture. Ashley was a prominent man in St. Louis business and politics, a man with both the vision to bring commerce to the West and the money to make it happen. "Other people's money," as Ashley had called it. Skittish money. Nervous money. Money that would flee easily from one speculative venture to the next. Although varying in small details, the major arcs were the same. I felt as if The Revenant did a better job of building the tension than Lord Grizzly but we both agreed that the ending to the story (in both books) was a let-down. In the movie, Glass and Henry go in search of Fitzgerald. Henry finds him first and Fitzgerald shoots him and leaves. Glass finds Henry’s body and takes it with him as he continues his search. He uses Henry’s body to sit on the main horse, while Glass pretends to be the dead body. This lures Fitzgerald to him because Fitzgerald falsely thinks he has shot Glass when really he had just shot Henry’s dead body that was propped up. Kroll, Justin (June 30, 2014).
