It's quite inspiring to think that though Louise Hay is no longer with us, her words continue to be read, absorbed and paid forward. That's got to be a good thing. A solid 3.5★ from me.

Being exposed to Louise Hay and reading this book completely opened my mind and gave me the idea I could chose my thoughts, if I wished. I remember being sceptical of course but then thinking, so how powerful am I really?! It triggered hundreds of hours of reading into the mind/law of attraction/heating etc and a whole overhaul of my mind. There's such a beautiful piece in the book where Louise suggests how marvelous it would be if teddy bears were given to all children in hospital. So that when they felt lonely or frightened, they would have a teddy to cuddle and make them feel safe. That was so poignant for me, as I recently had a dear friend have an unexpected hospital stay, and she mentioned how nice it would have been to have a "cuddle buddy" with her when friends and family had gone home. So teddy bears for everyone I say! This is one of those books that you have to reread periodically in certain stages of your life, just to remind yourself how strong you are and that nothing can actually take you down or make you feel down, despite you - yourself! The information in this book, which has been a part of my lectures, and new ideas since writing You Can Heal Your Life , is an opportunity to know a little more about yourself and to understand the potential that is your birthright.I feel an important thing to be aware of is that the Power we are all seeking "out there" is also within us and readily available to us to use in positive ways. May this book reveal to you how very powerful you really are. Why not give it a go and see how you feel about it? You know, never know it until you try it. So I did the inevitable: *fast forwards 3 minutes * I tried it. I've read many of Louise Hay's books over the years, and find that her warmth and empathy shine through. For me, so much of what she writes makes sense re: the mind-body connection.

Louise Hay established Hay House Publishing. It is the primary publisher of books and audio books by Deepak Chopra and Doreen Virtue, as well as many books by Wayne Dyer. DNF. My Mom is a Huge Louise Hay fan,long before I got into self help and new age books,she was devouring all of them and constantly rereading Mrs Hay. Every author that I love in the genre is published by Hay House and so I think I had profound expectations about Louise Hay's writing when I went into this. One thing I noticed, though, is that this book assumes a lot about the reader, which I can see has been influenced by the author's own circumstances. The book seems to be aimed at an older readership - 50+ I would say. It does cover how to nurture children (skimmed it) but for the most part it seems to target that older readership. You have an opportunity to love yourself more, so you can be a part of an incredible universe of love. Love begins in our hearts, and it begins with us. Let your love contribute to the healing of our planet.” This is basically a simplistic version of The Power of Your Subconscious Mind so I rather enjoyed it!

This book has a quiet positivity running through it, without being saccharine sweet or wishy washy. It simply asks us to dig deep. let go of regrets, be grateful for what we have, and to be kinder to ourselves and others. Our minds and thoughts have such an impact on our daily lives. I enjoyed the book, it was a light read. Took me about two weeks, some chapters were definitely better than others. Loved the idea of the wounded child inside of us, I actually did take her advice and have become an overall more positive person since and just shifted my perspective on a lot of things. I also really enjoyed the part about being environmentally conscious as I do agree we are one with the environment and, yes, we do have to take care of the planet. In the early 1970's Hay became a Religious Science practitioner. In this role she led people in spoken affirmations meant to cure their illnesses. She also became popular as a workshop leader. Around the same time she began leading support groups for people living with H.I.V. or AIDS that she called Hay Rides. These grew from a few people in her living room to hundreds in a large hall in West Hollywood. Her work with AIDS patients drew fame and she was invited to appear on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" and "Donahue" in the same week in March, 1988. You’ll learn how to react to problems differently using positive affirmations and a new mindset so you have more peace. After many years counseling clients and conducting hundreds of intensive training programs, self-help pioneer Louise Hay said the one thing that heals every problem is to love yourself and The Power is Within You will show you how.

In addition to running her publishing company, Hay runs a charitable organization called Hay Foundation that was established in 1985. It's not about not having bad thoughts, but being able to recognise and alter them. You don't have to be perfect, you just have to want to be better. Hay said that she found the First Church of Religious Science on 48th Street, which taught the transformative power of thought. Hay revealed that here she studied the metaphysical works of authors like Florence Scovel Shinn and the Religious Science founder Ernest Holmes.

In 1977 or 1978 she found she had cervical cancer, and she concluded that its cause was her unwillingness to let go of resentment over her childhood abuse and rape. She refused medical treatment, and began a regimen of forgiveness, therapy, reflexology, nutrition, and occasional enemas, and claims she rid herself of the cancer. She declared that there is no doctor left who can confirm this story, but swore that it is true. I was looking for this same titled book written by Claude Bristol. I could not find it, so I went thru this in about 20 min. I am very very very disappointed with this book/'writer' and cannot seem to understand what people like about it.. I have read many books from New Thought writers, so I am well aware of the philosophy she mentions in the book. She is repeating some words she heard at her science church and repeats words and sentences that she does not understand, nor can explain, which she even admits... At one point she writes she used the om word in her workshop because it works well, but she herself has no understanding about it. OMG! The ancient Indians used the om word which certainly has purpose and spiritual explanation. I find it very unfortunate that some people, typically Americans, go to the East, take something and sell it to the West without any purpose or without the original meaning. The whole book is written without the writer truly understanding the concepts she is talking about. This book is perfect for uneducated people in the field. She moved to Chicago, where she worked in menial jobs, before moving in 1950 to New York. At this point she changed her name and began a career as a fashion model. She was successful at this, working for Bill Blass, Oleg Cassini, and Pauline Trigere.
