I really liked what Joy Ellis did with the female character of Marie, she looks like any woman you can meet on the street, unlike other female detectives I came across lately, Marie has exceptionally normal eyes and hair color, she is a biker and a devoted friend, tough and vulnerable, has high morals and that's what makes you like her very much. The mystery was decent, but coincidences were everywhere - the expert who just happened to have studied the murderer that the suspect was obsessed it, who was actually the murderer himself and was also obsessed with Evans, who he tried to murder. Plus all the incompetence from seemingly everyone, that was still somehow able to be salvaged at the end. And at least three people, in three separate situations, venturing somewhere alone, despite knowing there is a serial killer on the loose! Three people, two of whom are cops! This is a British police procedural that I procured from Audible Plus after reading a fabulous review from a fellow blogger. Bloggers give the best recs! This is a very clean read. Yes, there are people who suffer violent death but it’s never gory or gratuitous. No explicit content or swearing (except for once when the female cop Marie says “hell”….such a potty mouth ; ) .

I loved how the parallels to the past were used a lot in this case. You have the elusive and murderous Francois Thayer, who Daniel believes to a stage of obsessiveness is his mother. You see the loose threads of her killer spree running so close to the present day you wonder if it is the same killer. Is Daniel copying the past? Notes: Mask Wars was later re-published as Crime on the Fens. Shadowbreaker was re-titled Shadow Over the Fens. If You Like Joy Ellis Books, You’ll Love… Police found human remains, including two hands, and used fingerprints to identify the victim. They then went to the house of Khorramdin’s parents. This is a tough review to write. I won’t get into the story as the publicity blurb above outlines the plot. Instead, I’ll try to explain why this wasn’t for me.Whatever happened at that time it left a scar on Andrew, which I suspect can't ever be mended properly. The rest of the team are as normal and real as they can be, there's a joining soon character *fingers crossed* can't mention the name or there will be spoilers. The Murderer’s Son is a police procedural, murder mystery thriller crime novel. A brutal serial killer is on a killing spree in a Fensland town of England. The mystery is well paced and executed. I was pulled in by the details. The story has a pleasant flow and even though it dealt with murder; it wasn’t overly bloody in grizzly details. I figured out who the suspect was, but enjoyed the ride.

Now: a woman is viciously stabbed to death in the upmarket kitchen of her beautiful house on the edge of the marshes. Court officials said the parents seemed largely of sound mind but they needed to investigate further. They are also reportedly looking into whether any other family members might be missing in suspicious circumstances. A white (blond, in fact) male journalist is described as a 'new up-and-coming voice' or something like that and the police record a suspect's interrogation on a literal tape (surely they don't still use those). The film-maker’s murder was discovered in the early hours of Sunday morning. Police were called to the Tehran suburb of Ekbatan after someone spotted human body parts in a bin, local media reported, quoting the judge, Mohammad Shahriari, the head of the Tehran criminal court. Perfect for fans of Rachel Abbott, Robert Bryndza, Mel Sherratt, Angela Marsons, Colin Dexter, or Ruth Rendell. As a result I believe that Andrew can quite legitimately be considered as one of John Cooper's victims. In the final episode, Andrew says Cooper chose the name because he liked the Johnny Cash song, 'A Boy Named Sue', and wanted Andrew to have to "fight" because he had a girl's name. On a final note, the audiobook is narrated by the incomparable Richard Armitage. His range of voices is excellent even for the women, which is quite something given he has such a deep baritone. This is a mystery with a different point of view. Through twists and turns we eventually discover the truth. (Although I guessed it earlier, it didn’t spoil the book at all.)

Secondly, when the the two characters are supposed to be having a "sentimental chat" about the character Kevin being silly for not having coming out already. His boss tells him his evangelical dad probably won't react badly and will accept him. Then, Kevin was emotionally touched to tears by that? This writer clearly hasn't had the experience of coming out to their extremely pious parents or is blissfully unaware of how many people STILL are doing that with a very negative result. You have to remember that such crimes have immediate victims but also there are many other victims, family members and friends, sometimes police officers and others like lawyers who are working on the case. During the court hearing, Akbar told Hamshahri reporters he had no regrets. “I don’t regret what I did with the cooperation of my wife. They were corrupted and I thank God.” This is a very gripping story with a lot going on as the team try to untangle the web and uncover the clues. However, there are complications at every turn and all is not as it seems as we join the team on an adrenaline pumping journey through the twists and turns of the case. As more murders are committed and people are running away and going missing this is one very gripping book that is impossible to put down.In the royal palace at Forres, Banquo paces and thinks about the coronation of Macbeth and the prophecies of the weird sisters. The witches foretold that Macbeth would be king and that Banquo’s line would eventually sit on the throne. If the first prophecy came true, Banquo thinks, feeling the stirring of ambition, why not the second? Macbeth enters, attired as king. He is followed by Lady Macbeth, now his queen, and the court. Macbeth and Lady Macbeth ask Banquo to attend the feast they will host that night. Banquo accepts their invitation and says that he plans to go for a ride on his horse for the afternoon. Macbeth mentions that they should discuss the problem of Malcolm and Donalbain. The brothers have fled from Scotland and may be plotting against his crown. Khorramdin’s parents could still face the death penalty, however, if they are put on trial for the murder of their son-in-law.

After being taken into custody, the couple confessed they had also killed their son-in-law 10 years previously, and their daughter three years ago, in the same way. Some of the discussion of the case on social media focused on why the couple’s disappearance had not prompted an investigation. The story itself is immediately engaging and twists and turns leaving me guessing without groaning in exasperation at the ridiculousness of it all which has happened a few times recently. Ellis has a bright approach to her writing which moves the story on at a very enjoyable pace while allowing her characters to grow depth and colour.

Publication Order of Anthologies

According to the programme - which features Andrew at length, gaining insight into the most private aspects of his life - he changed his name because Cooper chose 'Adrian'. The novel is well paced, it doesn't get dull, and even if you find out the who done it, you keep reading until the end.
