About this deal

I cannot tell you how excited I was when I received an ARC for A.R. (Alessandra) Torre’s latest thriller. I became a HUGE fan of her writing in 2020, having read 5 of her books. She’s still got it in 2021! I was hooked onto this one from the get-go. It’s compelling and riveting, with fully fleshed-out characters who have intriguing secrets. I’ve said this before, but Torre has got to be one of the most versatile authors I’ve ever read. Her books range from steamy erotic thrillers ( The Deanna Madden series...which I need more of!!),heartbreaking dramas ( The Ghostwriter), juicy and devious thrillers ( Every Last Secret), to this one...which is more of a straight up thriller (with a dollop of steam 🔥). Gwen was the protagonist and a psychologist specializing on violent tendencies and obsessions, she had a meaningless encounter with Robert the same day two of her patients were buried. Gwen believed that she responsible for both of their deaths. Why was she so inclined to assume responsibility for their homicides? In February 2015, the Foundation for Lost Boys and Girls of Sudan, Inc., acting on behalf of 54 Sudanese refugees, filed a lawsuit in Georgia against writer Margaret Nagle, Alcon Entertainment and Imagine Entertainment. The suit claimed that the refugees were joint authors of the stories they had told Nagle in interviews that she had recorded and used to write the story. It also asserted that a joint venture agreement had been breached, with fraud and other issues arising from a promise of compensation from a producer.

The notorious Bloody Heart serial killer has already killed six of the finest California’s teenage boys, but the seventh escaped. He identified high school teacher Randall Thompson as his captor. Thompson is arrested and everyone, including Gwen, already sees the case as closed. challenge so early in life, anything else should be a relative breeze. But if any movie deserves two potentially get-out-your-hanky endings, You see, Robert is so sure Randall Thompson is innocent, he decided to become his defense Attorney. Riddled with guilt, Dr. Moore is oblivious to the new development in the bloody heart killer case. The BHS killer, having killed six teen boys, all wealthy, had kidnapped his seventh victim only for the victim to have escaped the killer a few weeks after. Scott Harden, who was held captive by the BHS killer, has escaped. And now, he is recognizing Randall Thompson, a science teacher in Beverly Hills, as the killer.

Brueggeman, Tom (October 5, 2014). "Specialty Box Office: 'The Good Lie,' 'Men, Women & Children' Open Soft". IndieWire . Retrieved December 25, 2022. Psychiatrist Dr. Gwen Moore has made a career treating killers, predators and those who have impulses to kill. She is considered an expert in her field, but will that be enough? A defense attorney decides to represent a man accused of killing six teenagers. One of them was that attorney's son... Why is he so convinced of his innocence?

Torre will be a go-to author for me after loving this and Every Last Secret. She writes characters you may not always like, but you feel invested in nonetheless. As an aside, I adore Gwen’s fellow psychiatrist, Meredith. She’s a bottle of saucy fun! The strength of this book is the characters, and the mind games that each of them are playing. If you like action - this isn’t that book, but if you like to get inside characters’ heads for a bit - try this one. I think you’ll like it!There was four different perspectives, Gwen whose point of views were the more recurrent through the storyline. Robert with one chapter narrated on the third person as well for Scott. Meanwhile, Scott’s mother had a little bit of credit with her suspicious point of views that were recounted by the third person, too. But how and why everyone was related? As Gwen and Robert grow closer and she dives deeper into the investigation, grave questions arise. So does Gwen’s suspicion that Robert is hiding something—and that he might not be the only one with a secret. The Good Lie is a 2014 American drama film written by Margaret Nagle and directed by Philippe Falardeau. The film stars Reese Witherspoon in the lead role, Arnold Oceng, Ger Duany, Emmanuel Jal, and Corey Stoll. I’m still missing her Deanne Madden character from Girl in 6E! I’m crossing my fingers and wishing she can decide to write a new book of hers in near future!

The Good Lie was such a juicy, twisted and endlessly entertaining thriller. Layer after layer of twisted plot, yet everything working well together and never feeling like too much was going on. Honestly, I’m impressed. Not many authors can pull it off in such a chill, relaxed manner. When 17-year-old Scott Harden shows up at his home after being missing for almost 7 weeks, he becomes the first victim of serial killer, The Bloody Heart Killer, to escape. To everyone’s surprise he fingers Randall Thomspson, a long-time science teacher at his high school as the perpetrator. So why is attorney Robert Kavin, the father of the BH Killer’s 6th victim, Gabe, stepping forward to defend this man - pro bono, no less?

I enjoyed the cat and mouse game between Robert and Gwen, attorney vs psychiatrist! And the way they analysed and tried to figure each other out.

The incident with Luke and the stolen keys didn’t add much to the story because we find out from Rob anyways that Randall’s MO was young girls. And the lost keys only led to Gwen running to Rob. I understand the need to throw red herrings and distractions but this didn’t really add anything to the story overall. So what if the lines between business and pleasure were blurry? Robert and Gwen had spent a night together, and it might go against the code of conduct. Gwen is ready to ignore the temptation and keep it professional. But how can she when there’s a growing tension between them? And how will they handle it when both of them are hiding something from each other? There’s one thing for sure. Things were about to take a sinister turn. But don’t worry, all those storylines complete the whole picture with a smart signature of dark Torre style! Drunken nightmare … George Segal, Richard Burton (holding the rifle) and Elizabeth Taylor in the film of Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? Photograph: George Rinhart/Corbis via Getty Images This is one of those stories that starts out with many threads, but they all slowly converge into a cohesive tale. I particularly enjoyed that this thriller is a little different from others I've read. The plot is unique and fresh, with interesting elements combining in ways I haven't seen before. And of course, the twists in the end felt surprising and thoroughly satisfying. I've never studied law but the conflict of interests between Rob and Randall seemed too farfetched for Rob to be his attorney. Though I was willing to overlook this.
