About this deal

Dozens of Survivors filming locations can be found inside and just beyond the Herefordshire county boundaries During series 3, production occasionally moved further afield to Suffolk, Derbyshire, and Wiltshire, with the last episode filmed in the Scottish Highlands. Extensive use was made of the Severn Valley Railway. Barker, Dennis. "Obituary: Terry Nation – The Man who Invented the Daleks". The Guardian, 13 March 1997.

A national emergency has been declared by Westminster as panic violently grabs hold of the population. Hospitals are being overrun and there are numerous incidents of mobs charging the entrances, fighting staff and each other. Some have died in the crush…”After Vic attempts suicide, the others discuss how depressed he has become and set about finding useful tasks to give him a sense of purpose, such as teaching the children. Additionally, Greg and Paul go to a nearby town and find Vic a proper wheelchair. Two people turn up at the manor driving a tanker full of petrol. One is a young man, Donny, the other is Anne – the woman who had left Vic to die. Vic tells the others what she did, and Abby decides that Donny can stay but Anne must leave in the morning. That night, Anne attempts to kill Vic, who in turn also tries to kill her in anger. After both break down in tears, they talk. The following morning, a seemingly more positive Anne leaves the house, watched by Vic. ONE OF THE many things which made Survivors such an impactful and atmospheric series was the programme’s reliance on real-world filming locations. Initially shot on 16mm film, and later recorded using an Outside Broadcast system for video recording, the show’s producer and his team of directors utilised locations across the UK, stretching from Dorset to the Scottish highlands. In contrast, meandering through the interiors and grounds of Hampton Court, pausing on the Hole-in-the-Wall bridge over the River Wye in Herefordshire, or roaming the hillsides and striding through the valley of Monsal Dale in the Peak District, soaking up the atmosphere along the way, reward both time and the repetition of repeat visits.

Greg: The Witch is on a par, for me. My beef with it is that the episode centres around a brand new character (Mina). I must say that Delia Paton is excellent in the role – but we’ve never met her before, and suddenly asked to care about her. Not only that but the plot is almost absurdly thin. Hubert is after a bit of fun with Mina, but she rebuffs him. To hurt her feelings, Hubert tells the kids that Mina’s a witch, and it all goes very Hansel and Gretel. Pet gets utterly hysterical, and Charles has to lose his temper and force them all to see sense. Terry Nation’s novel is even more detailed in its dystopian portrait of London since it contains more precise location references in terms of places and street names. As a matter of fact, in addition to a clear identification of the area where Jenny used to live (Fulham, Fulham Road and nearby streets) and her way out of the city (Battersea Bridge, the steep hill up at Clapham Common, Dulwich, towards the area north of the Thames), Nation provides extensive informatio

So for everybody that got a D in hs biology, no, a virus can't kill off this many people in such a short amount of time. I can't explain without running afoul of the censors but it just can't happen. Anyway, even though the premise of the show is pretty ludicrous, it's very smart that they don't concentrate on it. Instead, the story lines are more around what would happen if everything about modern civilization was turned off, literally, and it's as much relevant today as it was 45 years ago. How would we survive? How well would you survive? This show poses and answers with great effect the age old mythical and sci-fi question, what would happen if we had to start society again, right from scratch?
