About this deal

The 4K disc of The Last Jedi is newly authored—it no longer includes Dolby Vision HDR (per Disney’s new norm). All of the Blu-rays in the set are newly-authored discs—they are not the same as those released previously. The Last Jedi movie Blu-ray now includes the Score-only version of the film and its Bonus Blu-ray now includes the Meet the Porgs retail exclusive featurette. Most (but not quite all) of the previous Blu-ray special features are included in this set. Most of the previous DVD special features are not included—and of course, the original unaltered theatrical cuts of Star Wars, Empire, and Jedi are not included. Whilst the artbook has a great front cover I just don’t see anything exclusive enough in this box set to warrant such a steep price tag.

Jedi Knights Obi-Wan Kenobi and Qui-Gon Jinn rescue Queen Amidala, ruler of a peaceful planet invaded by dark forces. On their escape, they discover nine-year-old Anakin Skywalker, a child prodigy who is unusually strong in The Force. A number of interviews titled: Tatooine Overview, Mark Hamill Interview, Anthony Daniels Interview, Aboard the Death Star Overview, Carrie Fisher Interview, and Battle of Yavin Overview.Second chapter of George's 'Star Wars' Trilogy finds Luke Skywalker training to be a Jedi Knight and Han Solo and Princess Leia eluding Darth Vader. Conversations: Creating a Universe – 8 minute feature, new for this release, with Joe Johnston (from ILM) and Roger Christian (a Star Wars set dresser and a second unit director) who meet and discuss their time on the franchise at the Skywalker Ranch.

For Star Wars fans it is definitely worth your while to invest in the 4K discs because they offer far more video and audio quality that even 4K streaming versions of the films which are currently available on Disney+. Clone Wars rage across the galaxy. The sinister Sith Lord seizes control of the Republic and corrupts Anakin Skywalker to be his dark apprentice, Darth Vader. Obi-Wan Kenobi must confront his fallen friend in an epic lightsaber duel. HDR also adds so much to the movie and offers great contrast to still appreciate the 4K detail even in the shadows and in brighter areas of the picture that would otherwise be washed out.Luke Skywalker is reunited with his comrades for a final battle with Darth Vader and the evil galactic empire in this third instalment in George Lucas'"Star wars" saga. Star Wars was shot using a combination of Arriflex 35-III, Panavision PSR R-200, Panavision Panaflex X and Panavision Panaflex cameras on 35mm film, and has been newly scanned with 4K resolution for this release. It should be noted that the latest ‘Special Edition edit’ has been the source for this scan, it therefore contains much of the colouring inherent to that release. The disc presents a native 3840 x 2160p resolution image in the widescreen 2.39:1 aspect ratio, and uses 10-bit video depth, High Dynamic Range, and is encoded using the HEVC (H.265) codec for HDR10. We reviewed the Region free UK Ultra HD Blu-ray release of Star Wars on a Panasonic 65DX902B Ultra HD 4K TV with a Panasonic DMP-UB400 Ultra HD Blu-ray player.

We suspect this has something to do with the fact they were all shot digitally and not on film like the original movies. Before you ask, yes, sadly, it's the George Lucas tweaked Special Editions of the original trilogy, so you'll have to blink at just the right moment if you still want Han to shoot first. But what was also amazing was how much the HDR improved the image and showed off shapes and objects in the shadows we normally would have missed. Blu-ray (top) v 4K It’s here! Tuesday, March 31st, 2020 will be a day long remembered, as it marks the arrival of Disney and Lucasfilm’s complete Star Wars Saga on the new 4K Ultra HD format—all 9 Skywalker films and the two Star Wars Story anthology films as well. And while there may be the same 4K resolution you don’t get the same depth of colour, the same brightness or the same sharpness around objects and finer details like hair and skin texture.

Why Is the Star Wars Skywalker Saga Box Set So Expensive?

The Rise of Skywalker 4K disc showcases the vast amount of colours and shades as the story moves from the forest Rebel Base to the bright desert of Pasaana, the dark streets of Kijimi and the mysterious world of Exegol.

High Dynamic Range (HDR) is also better off the disc so the clarity and contrast in the darker and lighter areas of the picture are even more detailed and defined. Lucasfilm and director J.J. Abrams join forces once again to take viewers on an epic journey to a galaxy far, far away with Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, the riveting conclusion of the seminal Skywalker saga, where new legends will be born and the final battle for freedom is yet to come.Secondly the bit rate (the number of bits to provide the video and audio quality) is much higher off a disc than a streaming service. Discoveries from Inside: Weapons & The First Lightsaber – 3 minute short with Roger Christian and J.W. Rinzler looking at weapon props inside the Skywalker Ranch art archive. Firstly, they offer a repeatable high quality experience regardless of the speed of your internet connection. A streaming service uses higher compression and lower bit rate to reduce the file size to make it easier to stream.
