SSL2 vs SSL2+

I bought this interface, after a recommendation from my friend and testing his unit in action. After two weeks I decided to give it a shot. Sound quality - preamps have very clean, pristine sound, and enough gain to drive an SM7B. They work well on line, instrumental, and mic input - DI guitar and bass sound really good.

Like quite a few other small interfaces, the 2 and 2+ make provision for low-latency input monitoring entirely in hardware. Input signals can be fed directly into the monitor path, with a fixed latency of around 1ms, and what you hear at the output is a balance of input signal and DAW return determined by the position of the Monitor Mix knob. This applies to all of the outputs and can't be defeated, so it's not possible for instance to audition the input signal on Phones A without it also contributing to the main output and Phones B. A button labelled Stereo determines whether inputs 1 and 2 are both heard panned centrally, as would be appropriate for two mono mics, or hard left and right, as you would want with a stereo source connected. Goes without saying that I love this box but I also have to show mad love for Thomann who were extremely helpful when the courier delivering this went AWOL. Customer service is virtually a thing of the past these days but Thomann are a shining example of how it can and should be done. the updater application then power on the console once more to re-attempt.
