About this deal

This category is aged for at least a year, but less than three, and is where you’ll really start to notice the influence of the barrel. Producers use everything from ex-bourbon to red wine or Scotch whisky casks to add subtle layers of caramel, toffee and oak on top of the fresh and peppery agave base. The magical, yet simple addition that makes this one impressive margarita is actual smoke, which creates a smoke infused smokey tequila, along with smoked salt! Another twist that I added to this smoked margarita sour is the foamy top, a key feature of a pisco sour.

One smoky tequila that is often praised is Fortaleza Blanco. This tequila is made from 100% blue agave and is distilled in small batches. It has a smoky flavor that is said to be reminiscent of roasted marshmallows. As always, a personal note. This tequila reminded me a lot in aroma and flavour of popcorn. Yes, I said popcorn. A weird one I know, how can tequila taste like popcorn? I don't know. Maybe it’s the butteryness or something. Either way, that’s what I get!
