About this deal

If you are a chili aficionado, this is the cookbook for you. It is one that will be much used, and it’s also fun to read. Fans of "The Office" will understand why Brian Baumgartner is the obvious choice to present this chili cookbook. I'll be honest: I've never seen an episode of "The Office". So, I was curious about a story that started with, "On April 30, 2009, at roughly 9:02pm, my life changed forever. I became known as "the chili guy"." His anecdote about a rather messy scene in the "Casual Friday" episode of the series involves physical humor and definitely needs visuals to really tell the tale, so six photographs of 'the incident' are included. By the end of the story, I was laughing and groaning and most definitely got the joke. Brian's eye (and taste buds) for great chili is absolutely top notch. In fact, we will let him judge ANY day in ANY category he wants at our annual World Championship Chili Cookoff! (We just won't let him carry any of the dishes during the turn-in process!!!) Much like his fictional counterpart Kevin Malone in the Emmy-winning TV show, The Office, Brian Baumgartner is a true chili master who is serious about making the most perfect pot of chili. He scoured the United States and beyond to find the best, most savory chili recipes he could find! Seriously Good Chili Cookbook is the world's biggest and greatest collection of chili recipes. With more than 150 mouth-watering recipes gathered by the most famous chili icon, Brian himself, this chili cookbook is the only one you'll ever need! Who doesn't love a chili collection curated by the king of chili himself? This is the new bible on chili, with recipes for every style and diet and with heartwarming anecdotes from The Office's famous chili scene. It's ideal for any chili lover or The Office fan (and we count ourselves as both!).

The content: all sorts of chili recipes ranging from the most standard to the most unique, different ways to serve it, etc. Fox Chapel Publishing, publisher of Baumgartner's cookbook, shared an excerpt from "Good Chili Cookbook:177 of the Best Recipes in the World" including his recipe. 'Brian’s Seriously Good Chili Recipe' Regardless of what recipe you test out, Baumgartner has a couple chili-making secrets he shares with USA TODAY. Brian is also a New York Times best-selling author of his latest book, Welcome to Dunder Mifflin, as

I love the fact that each chili recipe had it's own photo, and divided into several categories... it made it easy to choose which ones I wanted to try first! While there was a peppers/heat guide at that beginning of the book that rated the spiciness scale of each, it wasn't reflected in the actual recipe, so you'll have to look up the peppers if you're not familiar to determine what kind of heat factor you're looking at.

Five stars. This would be an excellent choice for public library acquisition, home use, or gift giving to a fan of The Office -or- chili fans. The recipes include some from the author himself, but many were from professional chefs, chili award winners and general enthusiasts. The variety was astounding, and there's enough variety that everyone should find something they like, even if you're vegetarian or not a beef eater. Written in the humorous and friendly tone Brian Baumgartner is known and loved for, this is not your average cookbook! Included is a presentation from Brian about how an infamous 60-second scene from the show transformed him into a chili icon, his passion for chili, and a fascinating account of the history of his all-time favorite comfort food. Each section showcases specific styles of chili — from Texas chili and Cincinnati chili to turkey chili, chili verde, vegetarian, and other regional and international variations. The standout with this collection is the photography. There are many many full color photos for the recipes showing finished serving suggestions, sides, alternate toppings, and cooking progress photos. It's a really good collection for cooks who might need an extra help with serving suggestions and presentation ideas.

Also, there is a comprehensive “Hot Pepper Heat Scale”, interesting and helpful. What I love about this book is how it breaks down the complexities of chili into manageable pieces. It's like they've taken the fear out of cooking, kind of like how Dunder Mifflin takes the fear out of paper. And trust me, I've had my share of cooking disasters - remember the time I burned my foot on a George Foreman Grill?
