The rear cameras of mobile devices use mainly a LED flash. It may arrive in a single, dual- or multi-light setup and in different arrangements. It’s a while since an Android tablet really gripped my attention. We’re living in an era dominated by iPads after all, with Apple effectively owning the big-screen mobile experience. But Samsung’s surprise announcement of the Galaxy Tab S3 at this year’s MWC has piqued my interest once more. For all its faults, the Samsung Galaxy Tab S3 is probably the best Android tablet on the market at the moment. They’re decent speakers, with plenty of volume and the positioning means noise will come out in all directions, but they do have a tendency to feel like the sound is far away from you and being pushed the wrong way. This might have something to do with the software that’s supposed to alter the sound depending on which orientation you’re holding it in. Even with this issue, they’re much better than the majority of tablet speakers.

Putting out a peak brightness of 441 nits, the Tab S3 is one of the brightest tablets we've ever tested, even outshining the 9.7-inch iPad Pro (432 nits). However, the Tab S3 fell short of the Google Pixel C, which put out a superbright mark of 509 nits. UMTS stands for Universal Mobile Telecommunications System. The Galaxy Tab S3 doesn’t look much different to Samsung’s last premium tablet offering, the Galaxy Tab S2. It’s still got that gorgeous 9.7in AMOLED display on the front (more on that later) and it’s still seriously thin and lightweight. The big difference this year? Samsung lobs its enhanced S Pen in the box for free. And that’s almost worth the price of admission alone. Even though the Tab S3's performance is quite good, Apple's iPad Pro still holds a considerable advantage. The screen’s much more colourful and saturated than the iPad Pro display, which can look a tad dull when they’re both side by side, but this is where the S3’s lead ends. When I put it up against the iPad Pro (which also has a dynamic four-speaker arrangement) while listening to Chic's "I'll Be There," the differences we're quite apparent. While the iPad Pro definitely wins on volume, the vocals and guitars from the Tab S3 were much crisper, and and sounded richer, in the highs and mids, especially up against the iPad's overly airy audio.
