About this deal

Out of the box, not much needs doing to the Riley RS1; you will need a small hex key (supplied) to tighten the brake and you'll need to screw on the handlebars. It's a simple process and takes just a few minutes. The E365 E-Scooter is very similar in looks and operation to the FlyRide Hawk, but without the gorgeous white colour available for that model. The E365 is a Chinese scooter and the name is obviously a “homage” to the Xiaomi M365. The tyres are 8.5” and air-filled which gives a supple ride. However, I’m personally not a fan of inner-tubed wheels on e-scooters because of the puncture risk. Basically if you get a puncture it is game over for using the scooter on the remainder of your trip, because the process of fixing it is so painful and time-consuming. With the Hawk, I recommend putting some innertube slime into the tyres as this will give protection against thorn and glass etc.

This allows you to easily carry it up stairs or through a train station, and at 13kg it's one of the lightest options on the market, although it's still important to remember that it will take some effort, depending on your strength level.A short press on the function button – just above the throttle – toggles between three gears; Beginner, Standard and Pro, which controls what your top speed can reach and how fast you reach it. Acceleration is brisk and almost silent. You can hear a slight electrical whirr of the motor, but it’s not intrusive. Soon you’re feeling the wind through your hair (or scalp in my case!). It’s a wonderful feeling. The big 10” tyres have excellent grip and I was never worried about slipping around corners, even in damp conditions. For your money, the Riley RS2 comes with a powerful 350W motor, 10in pneumatic tyres and a 12.8Ah battery with a quoted maximum range of 28 miles per charge.

It’s also far more environmentally friendly to replace the battery when it’s spent – or, more likely, to fit a newer, larger-capacity version – rather than junk the entire scooter. The wheels are 8.5 inches with puncture-proof solid tyres. The front wheel has an e-brake via the motor and there is also a disk brake in the rear wheel – this is reassuring! The Riley RS1 has a 350W motor that allows the scooter to reach speeds of up to 25km/h, and I found the RS1 did this with ease, potentially due to it weighing in at a lightweight 13kg. Additionally I thought the thumb-activated throttle input was responsive and didn’t have any frustrating lag.For camping enthusiasts, an electric scooter can revolutionize your trips away due to a number of key features: Firstly, high-quality gadgets and technology products tend to be more reliable. This means that they are less likely to break down or malfunction. When you’re relying on a product for an important task, such as work or communication, reliability is key. Investing in a high-quality RILEY RS1 V2 Electric Folding Scooter can give you peace of mind and help you avoid frustrating situations where your device fails you.

Yet again, it’s important to make clear that electric scooters are classified as Personal Light Electric Vehicles (PLEVs) in the UK and are therefore illegal to use unless you ride on private land with the landowner’s permission or as part of an authorised rental scheme. Riley RS2 electric scooter review: Comfort and performance The Hummingbird uses a 300W electric motor with regenerative braking and can reach the UK maximum-allowed speed of 15.5mph with ease. Point it towards a hill and it’s equally at home but the speed of climbing depends on the weight it has to carry. At 95kg (15 stone), it struggled on gradients more than about 10% but still got up most stuff.

It’s easy to describe every electric scooter as ‘nippy’ but I really enjoyed the direct power deployment of the RS1 as I applied the throttle – it made me want to keep on riding, and also gave me the confidence getting going from a standstill.
