About this deal

It’s that which enables Rani Takes on the World to exist, to make catching up with what Rani Chandra and Clyde Langer have done with their lives feel right. Anjli Mohindra, Da niel Anthony, and Min a A nwar reprise their roles with joyous aplomb. From first to last, they make it feel like the show never ended. Then Rani and her mum are off to a wedding and Gita is most disappointed that it's not Rani's! An old school friend seems to have turned her life around and brought her friends to a paradise island resort, but what is it costing? Rani and Gita Chandra (guest star Mina Anwar ) have been invited to a dream wedding on a luxury island resort. But how did Tiff from school end up marrying a film star? And why has she asked all the worst people from her life alongside the Hollywood A-listers? It’s also confirmed that fellow SJA cast members Daniel Anthony and Mina Anwar are reprising their roles as Clyde Langer and Rani’s mum Gita too. Speaking about the new series, Anjli Mohindra said:

The Beyond Bannerman Road team of Daniel Anthony (Clyde), producer Emily Cook, and Anjli Mohindra (Rani) (c) Big Finish Productions There’s more than a hint of the older Rory Gilmore to this new era in Rani’s life, as she battles to meet the lofty journalistic goals her younger self had set a sweet first instalment. it was touching and funny. who doesn’t love a good time loop? thoroughly enjoyed this re-spark of clani and phoenix’s introduction.overall, this was a fab boxset, a great return for clani, littered with great references to SJs life, the show and the extended doctor who multiverse. i loved it so much. i cant wait for the revenge of mrs wormwood !! When she appeared in 2022’s International Women’s Day release The Eighth of March: Protectors of Time, we learned that Rani is following in her mentor’s footsteps; her new investigations promise a flying saucer, a destination wedding and a haunted restaurant. Beyond Bannerman Road

The character, a teenage protégé of Doctor Who companion and investigative journalist Sarah Jane Smith appeared in four series of The Sarah Jane Adventures. Rani has of course followed in Sarah Jane's footsteps, with a successful journalistic career of her own. But when she and Clyde meet up for the first time in a while, there are surprises in store. Not least of which is the total destruction of Ealing!

This story was very fun and did a great job of exploring Rani in more depth. The actual plot to this is quite fun, with an ongoing mystery that kept me captivated and an ongoing threat that had me surprisingly worried for the main cast. Rani's mother is amazing, like I love this character. Don't get me wrong, she can be very unlikable, but in the most relatable, understandable and weirdly wholesome way possible. Also a shout-out to when her gossiping nature was used in this story to prod the main villain. But, tonight, Clyde isn’t the only visitor to Ealing… In the skies above, a flying saucer approaches – and only one person on Earth can stop it destroying London! Destination: Wedding by James Goss This was a breeze to get through. The stories were great. The characters were amazing. Now I have to wait the rest of the year for the next set with Luke and Miss Wormwood.

The nature of the threat itself, once fully revealed, does feel a little more like something from the Torchwood monthly releases, albeit with fewer gruesome sound effects and screaming. That’s perhaps unsurprising with Torchwood’s grand supremo, James Goss, on scripting duties. But with that range by far one of Big Finish’s that’s no cause for complaint. It also forms a link in the chain, as Rani Takes on the World moves into more mature spaces that its CBBC predecessor. High energy and character focussed, this is charming reintroduction to the world of Rani and Clyde. The alien threat, while relatively straightforward, is heartfelt with a great guest performance from Yvonne D’Alpra as Patricia Miller. Destination: Wedding What this story does really well is set up the characters for this run and, more importantly, the tone going forward. This is very clearly a follow on to SJA, but it is adding a definite edge that the original series did have but shied away from. In terms of the side cast, the characters exclusive to this story are fine, and while the characters that are set up for future stories don't get much exploration, it's clear that they are still very much in the set-up stage. Rani is following in Sarah Jane’s footsteps as a high-achieving investigative journalist who seeks to right wrongs and fight for the truth. She's reunited with her best pal Clyde, along with some other familiar faces, plus the return of wonderful Gita Chandra! Set 15 years after the events of The Sarah Jane Adventures on television, Rani is now following in the footsteps of her former neighbour as an award-winning journalist. And like Sarah Jane, Rani seeks to right wrongs and fight for the truth.

Anjli Mohindra Returns as Rani!

Although the organisation remains unnamed, the story brings in audio Torchwood’s Tyler Steel (Jonny Green). It’s a nice touch which helps to tie us into the wider Doctor Who universe further. There’s also a link to the Blue Box Files podcast of Doctor Who: Redacted in which Rani made an appearance too. In Summary Cover artwork and story details are today revealed for the forthcoming full-cast audio drama box set, Rani Takes On The World, from Big Finish Productions. Life on Bannerman Road was always an adventure for Rani Chandra and her friends. A childhood of mystery and wonder, of meeting aliens, time travellers, lost princes, intergalactic robots and so much more - all alongside Sarah Jane Smith.
