With entire areas of our homes reserved for “sitting rooms,” the value of quality antique and vintage seating cannot be overstated. You may notice some of the chair's preview images are "broken". I'm counting on the community to provide corrections and additions to this guide, because I'm not a chair collector and I've only been playing since 8th anniversary so I'm missing a lot of history. The seating of today is more inclusive but the style and placement of chairs can still make a statement. Ten years later, the Mobilier National called on Paulin again, this time to furnish the private office of President François Mitterand. Paulin responded with an angular, postmodern take on neoclassical furniture, pieces that looked surprisingly at home in the paneled, Savonnerie-carpeted Louis XVI rooms. As those two Élysée Palace projects show, Paulin furniture works well both in a total decor or when used as a counterpoint to traditional pieces. His creations have a unique personality: bright and playful yet sophisticated and suave. From his early childhood, Pierre was fascinated by the personality of his uncle Georges Paulin, a passionate and whimsical dandy who gave up his career as a dental prosthetic technician to devote himself to his true passion: motorcar design. Georges Paulin invented the Eclipse folding roof system and in the 1930s worked for the greatest coachbuilders of the day, then with Peugeot, Bentley and Rolls Royce. An elegant and intelligent autodidact, he was a role model who inspired young Pierre for many years, showing his nephew the fulfilment to be gained from creation and travelling off the beaten path. He initially sought to become a ceramist and sculptor and was studying in the town of Vallauris near the Côte d'Azur — a center for pottery making, where Pablo Picasso spent his postwar summers crafting ceramics — but broke his hand in a fight.
