About this deal

There are three variations of Ignite Fasten8; the standard laced model, the disc version (which has a dial to tighten the laces) and the Pro. You may ask yourself, but what is so different from other shoes? An all-new FASTEN8 Fit System, consisting of 8 interior webbing support straps that are integrated into the lacing system. The 8 webbing straps are secured from underneath the foot and when the laces are tightened, each of the Fasten8 straps delivers an exceptionally secure, personalized fit for players with all foot shapes and sizes. It also features the new PWRCAGE and PWRFRAME technologies and both of which contribute to stability during the swing and enhances comfort when walking. When trying a pair on for the first time, listen for the 'whoosh' sound when you slide your feet in - that's the sound of all the air leaving the shoe to confirm it is the correct size, but do a walking test to be sure. They shouldn't pinch anywhere, nor should your feet be moving around inside.

To the untrained eye the Ignite Fasten8 Pro does not necessarily stand out as being a ‘golf shoe’. If you’re walking around your local supermarket in them then fellow golfers might give you a knowing look, but to anyone else they will just appear to be trainers. This also makes them ideal to take on holiday as you won’t need to change them for any non-golfing activities but they still look the part. As comfortable overall as the FASTEN8 were, I was glad I gave them a range session for a little break in time before a full round on the links. I enjoyed the padding around the ankle for keeping my heel secure, but the cut hit me in an awkward way on the outside front of my right ankle. Why just one place on one foot? As one doctor once told me, “You’re a freak of nature.” Performance The advances in technology and R&D that goes into these new golf shoe’s outsoles has enabled manufacturers to create incredibly clever cleats or pods to grip the ground – all of which means much better stability, however fast you’re swinging your golf club. The downside is that these cleats wear over time so you’ll eventually need to replace the cleats. Or buy new golf shoes, of course. Our golf shoe testing methodology revolves around putting models to the test over a number of rounds and in different conditions. This is so we can gain a better idea of overall performance in terms of factors like grip comfort, grip, stability, waterproofing and how they actually look on the golf course. Each of the shoes listed above has been personally used by a member of the Golf Monthly team. Supportive, stable, breathable & 100% waterproof. The upper forms to each foot for greater comfort, shape and fit. Comfort is provided courtesy of a full length BOOST mid sole which adidas say “delivers incredible energy return and instant comfort”. They're not wrong. These shoes are right up there with the most comfortable Ihave ever worn.

On the course I like to carry my bag rather than use a trolley and the venue I played was extremely hilly. I’ve often walked off the 18th green on this particular course in with aching feet, but not this time. Although I could still feel that I’d been walking up and down hills for just short of four hours, my feet were in pretty decent shape overall. When conditions are good you simply can’t beat spikeless shoes for comfort. Driving the car while wearing golf shoes isn’t always advisable but the emergence of spikeless shoes has solved that issue and I found that driving while wearing the Ignite Fasten8 Pro was no different to wearing trainers. The sole utilises Swingplane Traction technology which was inspired by heat-map studies which revealed the areas in which the force of your golf swing will put most pressure on the shoe. The sole is stiffer in certain areas and more flexible in others so as to provide the maximum amount of traction where it’s needed most. This stiffness makes them more durable and ensures that your feet are always securely in place during the swing. Of course, there is one clear downside –spikeless shoes suffer in wetter conditions as their tread isn’t as deep as spiked shoes.PUMA golf shoes include performance-enhancing features designed to improve your game. Our revolutionary IGNITEFOAM midsole provides maximum energy-return and responsive comfort, while our proprietary studded sole system offers 3-dimensional traction to ensure peak-performance throughout the full 18 holes. Play your best round in comfort and style with golf shoes and trainers from PUMA. What does all that mean in plain English? I’ll attempt to translate for you. Basically this shoe has a very comfortable sole (made from IGNITE Foam) and a secure fitting upper (that’s the PWRCage) that wraps around your foot and gives you added stability when taking your shots. Many players choose to have one pair for winter and another, lighter pair for summer to keep them fresh and suit different requirements. The wraparound outsole is a new addition to CODECHAOS 22. Adidas love a cool name to describe their products and tech and TWISTGRIP is right up there. It’s a clever design innovation that sees the rubber grips on the sole extended up the side of the shoe on side wraps. The idea is to provide extra grip and stability and prevent your foot from moving around in the shoe during the follow through. From our experience, however, we’ve found good old-fashioned laces are still the best way to get your shoes feeling snug, without the need so much to tighten them mid-round with the twist dial, as we found with previous Boa Fit Systems on golf shoes. Sometimes we wonder if golf shoe brands are trying to fix a problem that doesn’t exist with these funky new lace setups.
