About this deal

Cordless vacuums are on their way to being the only game in town: people love how light and portable they are compared to corded vacuums, especially in flats and small houses. Your mind might automatically cast to Dyson. But cheaper and more widely available, American challengers Shark now rival them in popularity. They have short bristles that are capable of shifting large amounts of debris and are particularly good with textured floors. The only downside to this type of broom is that, due to the durability requirement, the bristle can be made of tough material that could scratch tiled or hardwood floors. Angle Brooms Rubber brooms are fast becoming one of the best dog hair broom designs on the market, as well as the most popular. The soft rubber bristles act like a pet hair magnet, attracting trapped dog fur and gathering it into an easy, manageable mass. The idea to use rubber to gather hair more easily makes this unique to other brooms. I have a few small gripes with the carpet cleaner. Firstly, it leaked dirty water if I left it stood upright for a few minutes (though this was easy to clean up). Secondly, despite repeated passes, some stains were too deep-rooted to lift - although the SpinScrub hand tool attachment was the most effective. It didn’t struggle with the more recent stains, so I suppose I shouldn’t expect miracles. Thirdly, I found if I sprayed too much from the pre-treatment wand, then ran the floor head over the same spot, it became extremely soapy and hard to rinse. It is a highly effective method of cleaning up pet hair, with some designed to have tight-knit bristles to more effectively gather small debris. Others have more spaced out bristles designed mainly for the collection of hair, as opposed to the full cleaning of a floor. Push Brooms

As the current owner of two dogs and four cats and several predecessors, the carpets in my house aren’t necessarily as dazzling white as they could be. I didn’t expect the carpet cleaner to make too much of a difference. How wrong I was.

There are various configurations of the QX9 but pet lovers should opt for the QX9-Anim, which comes with AEG’s Motorised Pet Nozzle attachment. This is a miniature version of the main motorised foot, which can be attached to the handheld unit and used to lift the pet hair out of upholstery.

The next step in keeping your carpet clean, once you’ve chosen it and had it installed, is to invest in the right tools for the job. Getting hair out of carpet can take forever and be a tedious task. Thankfully, there are some good items you can use to speed up this process, from rubber gloves to carpet rakes! We’ve listed a few examples below, and how you can best use them as a pet hair remover for carpet all over your home. The bristles were effective on longer-fiber rugs, but primarily where pet hair was longer than the carpet’s pile. And as with most of the long-handled rakes, you’ll want to have another tool like a vacuum on hand to clean up the fur and crumbs you unearth. Elizabeth’s take: “My double-coated pup Roo is going through a spring blowout just in time for our travel plans, where we’re staying in different vacation rentals and homes. The Uproot Clean pet rake has been easy to transport and has done a satisfying (and horrifying) job of raking up Roo’s hair on the various couches, carpets, and rugs we’ve encountered. It’s also been handy in getting up her fur from my car, though it does a better job on the carpet than the seats. Still, I’ll never road trip with Roo without it!” Angle brooms are designed very much like a traditional broom, however, the bristles have been cut at an angle for easier access to the hard-to-reach places. An angled broom is particularly helpful for narrow spaces, like between furniture, or around corners.Pre-treatment wand, SpinScrub hand tool, carpet and upholstery attachment and hard floor cleaning attachment Colour and material are also areas to think about. Darker tones tend to hide issues better, and if you know your pet dog is accident-prone, it could be worth investing in this from the get-go. Another option could be a darker patterned carpet to keep things interesting without losing that upside. Finally, when it comes to materials, you want something hardy and stain-resistant. We all love a wool carpet, but if you have dogs or other animals that come and go from the outside in, this may not be a good call. Wool takes a bit more work to maintain, as it sows more stains and tangles with hair. A nylon-based carpet, meanwhile, would resist stains and be easier to brush out. A good pet vacuum needs special attachments for removing pet hair, which can be finer than human hair, making it more likely to cling to fabrics due to static electricity. Hair can also easily clog the bristles of a standard vacuum cleaner head, reducing its ability to sweep up dirt. In short, no. Animals are meant to moult throughout the year to help prepare them for warmer or colder weather and an amount of shedding is normal. There are, however, some things you can do to minimise the amount that appears on your carpets and clothes. There are four types of brooms you can use to collect dog hair. Each has its own merits depending on the type of flooring you're wanting to use it for and the amount of fur you're having to deal with on a regular basis. Standard Brooms

The upholstery head is even smaller, for terrific suction, and has a lint brush ahead of the aperture. It’s best used in repeated, pulling-towards-you motions and took quite a bit of elbow grease, but achieved proper deep-clean results. The key features to look for, then, are the weave, the material and the colour of the carpet. When it comes to weaves, having shorter threads or a cut pile carpet can help immensely. The California Dreams Carpet, for instance, would fit the bill. Longer, more plush carpets are super comfortable but much harder to hoover up hair from and take a lot more scrubbing to get clean if something gets on it. Whether it be number 1 or 2, you want to spend as little time as possible getting it out of the carpet and out of your mind. The long-handled Lebrush carpet rake has a dual-sided brush. One side is flatter, like a lint brush, and the other has silicone-coated metal bristles. Our testers found the lint brush side works very well with short fiber rugs—so well, in fact, they had to clean it after every couple swipes with the handy mini brush that’s included.

This long-handled sweeper features an army of flexible rubber bristles and a squeegee-style edge to help you turn up the pet hair your vacuum can’t reach—in impressive quantities. Our tester was relieved to find it cleans easily in water. It’s not the best tool for gathering the loose hair it dredges up into piles, though, so you’ll want to partner it with a good vacuum or vacuum hose for a truly hair-free carpet. Our buyer’s guide to the best vacuum cleaners explains the complicated matter of measuring suction, but as a rough guide, look for a 600W motor or higher. And, very importantly, remember to empty the receptacle as regularly as possible: a bag or cyclone cylinder filled to the brim with pet hair will drastically reduce the vacuum’s suction power. Whichever broom you decide on should be easy to set up before use. Some brooms have extendable handles that are perfect for anyone that may struggle with mobility. The head should attach easily to the handle without the worry of it falling off mid-sweep. Storage

The USP here is a flexible wand that bends in the middle, with a light on the end to allow you to clean under furniture more easily. It also means the cleaner folds in half for convenient storage. Another unique feature is Shark’s “DuoClean” floorhead which contains two motorised brush rolls – one of stiff bristles, the other of rubber fins that dig deep into carpets to release more pet dirt. For pet-related cleaning on carpet and hard floor, the powered floor head comes with both a brush bar and a fluffy roller. This makes it equally effective on both surfaces, without requiring you to swap the floor head when you change between surfaces. The vacuum itself is great, too. It’s a handheld only cordless with few extra frills, though it does come with a motorised pet power head that’s armed with a rotating brush roller. It’s comfortable and light to use and is a great handheld addition to your vacuuming arsenal. HEPA filters provide the best method of filtration,” says Katerina Petrova of the Happy House cleaning company. “You can find both bagged or bagless models and the prices range from cheap to considerably more expensive. Good examples of this type of vacuum come from Miele, Shark and Dyson.’‘
