I went on a long rant in there about all the reasons I only think this is a three star story, but I do plan to read more in the series as the story is overall very interesting, so I'd say this is more like a 3.5/5 to me. I feel like there are a lot of questions that are left unanswered and they will probably be answered later on, which I think is fine. I started to read this because I wanted to read something along the lines of the Ranger's Apprentice books that I read in middle school. I really love Ranger stories and I look forward to seeing where this can go. There are regular Sherpa Buses and you can also use the Welsh Highland Railway (request stop). Both allow you to reach the Ranger from Porthmadog/Beddgelert and Caernarfon, with connections to Pen-y-pass and Betws-y-coed. Timings are approximate and depend on the individual. Calculate the time using Naismith’s Rule and factor in your own pace. Lasgol - Lasgol is the main character in this book. He is 'the Traitor's Son' that the title talks about. And I really loved him! He was a favorite character of mine, and he was just super cool. I loved his attitude about his situation, and how he was so determined to clear his father's name and try not to let people bother him. He was great!!!

This Author - in this series - writes like it takes me there as one of the characters who witnesses from start to finish like its alive and your part of it all !!!Our friends will be involved in intrigues, betrayals, persecutions, murders, battles, sieges and all kinds of situations that will test their loyalty not only to their kingdom but to their friends and colleagues. I missed Egil but I have a feeling he’ll be a bigger part of the story after the specialty training so I look forward to that.

Camu sadly had gotten annoying. It gets repetitive when the same arguments are repeated daily along with the same situations and that’s what happened with Camu in this book. Lasgol and his friends will try to pass the fourth and final year of instruction and graduate as Rangers on their own merits. To do this they will have to take part in deeply dangerous missions and help the King against the invaders.
