There’s a no-nonsense, rugged approach taken with the design that not only looks great but is incredibly functional too. Side tension straps are linked to the hipbelt. By tightening these straps you can stabilise the load but reduce the hipbelt flexibility. Where balance is critical tightening them can help you feel more secure. However, if you are striding out over easy terrain it’s better to loosen these straps to allow full hip flexibility. The Osprey Quasar has key features. While few (if any of them) are unique, it offers the perfect combination of features. To share my personal experience, I’m not the sort of person to carry an umbrella; my Osprey Daylite has been caught in the rain with me a number of times and my papers and computer have come out dry and in good shape. I, on the other hand, came out a sopping wet idiot. The sportier bags are not suitable for carrying laptops (as detailed in the tables); the Daylite Travel Plus is OK for smaller laptops and the Nebula/Nova, Heritage Series, Arcane Series, and Transporter series are the best choices for medium to larger laptops and tech gear. Ideal for minimalists on shorter several-day trips with its full suitcase-style wrap-around zipper to open

If you’re looking for something even smaller, Osprey also offers a great travel purse too which is an ideal accompaniment to these bags for organising your documents, wallet and passport. Inside the main compartment, you’ll have plenty of space for a change of clothes if you fancy a lift after work, and the laptop sleeve will keep sensitive electronics powered on when it’s presentation season. Some of Osprey’s newer bags made with recycled materials are treated with PFC-free DWR, which means “durable water repellency” treatments that do not use PFCs, the environmentally disastrous perfluorochemicals. In fact, the only reason I replaced it (with another Quasar) is because I fancied a change of colour and because I got a pretty good discount. Osprey built this bag to be one of the most spacious options on the market that still fits the legal definition of a carry on bag, and anyone who looks to make the most out of budget travel should have this option in their closet.

Unlike Osprey’s bright outdoors lines, the crisp colour schemes of the Nebula won’t feel out of place in the boardroom or along winding city streets. If you like to cycle to work there is a waist belt that helps keep the bag close to your body and a sternum strap to stop the comfy shoulder straps moving around and slipping off your shoulders. The reflective graphics will help you to be seen but just to make sure there is a handy bike light attachment loop for when the days get shorter and the nights get longer. And as this is Osprey we are talkingabout, they have popped on a safety whistle. So if you do decide to take this out on the hillyou can signal for help if you get into a spot of bother; its pretty useful in the city too if you come across someone who is after your wallet.
