About this deal

Ideal for use after the gym, between washes and when you are heading on a night out straight after work. You'll have surely heard of the brand thanks to their innovative and hugely popular bond building range, which has won a legion of fans for its hair restoring powers. Once I was done massaging it in (this took all of around two seconds), I was genuinely shook. My hair felt clean. And what's more, it looked clean, too. In fact, a friend actually asked me what I'd done to my hair for it to look so full of volume. And that isn't the sort of compliment I'm used to getting.

Olaplex's latest innovation, its No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo, has proved to be a game changer for me in the few short weeks I've had to test it. The first time I got to try the newest dry shampoo, celebrity hairstylist and Olaplex ambassador Jimmy Paul styled my (unwashed) hair using it. At the time, I was on second-day hair that was beginning to fall flat at the roots and could undoubtedly benefit from being spruced up. Lastly, I'm not sure if this is a me problem or not, but after a mid-afternoon touch-up, I have noticed a little bit of build-up in my roots. It's nothing major (you'd need to get really close to see it), but I can imagine if you have very dark hair that's glossy, this might be a bit of information you'd like to know. In particular, Olaplex wanted to ensure that its dry shampoo focused on a hot-button issue lately: scalp health. You can't have healthy hair if you don't start with a healthy scalp. "Your scalp is skin, and if that skin is disrupted in any way, your hair will not look its best," says Popescu. For best results, section the hair into manageable size pieces, and shake the can before use. Holding the can 6”-10” from the scalp, spray onto the roots, and then wait 30 seconds before massaging the product in. Another plus point is that they've swapped traditional talc for semi-transparent and ultra-fine brown rice starch, so like any dry shampoo worth its salt, 4D promises to absorb oil and sweat, and neutralise odour, all while adding volume and leaving no chalky residue in its wake. The first thing to applaud is how lightweight it feels. The shampoo doesn’t settle or leave a powdery residue, but instead, the uber-fine micro starch soaks up oil and gives my hair that weightless and post-wash bounce. I also love how fresh and cleansed it somehow makes my scalp feel. Other dry shampoos I’ve tried – while they help to reduce grease – still can’t mask the fact that my hair is dirty and in serious need of a wash. What’s so pleasing about this formula is that it does a thorough job at eliminating oil, without changing the texture of my hair (aka, there’s no chalkiness in sight). My roots were left lifted with a bit of undone texture, resulting in the sort of look that appeals to my inner Francophile. It was giving the sort of French-girl vibes I've only ever been able to dream of. I also tested it on my curls, as when I wear my hair in its natural state, I only wash it once a week, but I apply de-frizzing, and defining products daily, so it can get weighed down and greasy too.

Thanks to antioxidant rambutan seed extract, it also promises to ‘detoxify’ the scalp – which according to Olaplex means that it doesn’t cause build-up even after multiple uses and doesn’t leave the scalp itchy as a result – a common bugbear for regular dry shampoo users. Testing the OLAPLEX No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo Combined with their patented bond building technology which rebuilds and strengthens the hair, not only does the Olaplex dry shampoo rebuild broken bonds, but through the introduction of antioxidant-rich rambutan seed extract, it soothes the scalp and detoxifies to neutralise and repel odour-causing pollutants. To combat the telltale signs of dry shampoo residue, Olaplex 4D uses ultra-fine micro starch from rice to absorb oil from the hair, leaving it clean, soft and without a trace of residue or gritty buildup. Ideal for all hair types, including hair extensions, Olaplex No 4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo combines skincare and haircare science to create a light as air, residue free, sensitive scalp suitable dry shampoo, that will leave hair feeling looking fresh and feeling weightless. As all hair extension wearers will know, dry shampoo can be a life saver. Washing your hair extensions can take a long time, and the less you wash them the longer they will last, therefore using a dry shampoo between washes can save time and money in the long run. OLAPLEX No 4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo 250ml. We love dry shampoos as they are a really effective way to increase the interval between washes. Use a dry shampoo from the 2nd day after washing. On the 3rd day you can wear your hair up before washing again on the 4th day. How much to use:Clearly, I got the VIP treatment when Paul did my hair, but let's talk about my experience test-driving the Olaplex No.4D Clean Volume Detox Dry Shampoo at home. To truly test out this dry shampoo's capabilities, I decided to ask the absolute most of it. I went on a run in the morning on third-day hair, and I had dinner plans that night, so my hair couldn't just look passable, it had to look freshly washed. As you might guess, none of this is an accident. Olaplex wanted to create a dry shampoo that solved common dry shampoo woes like residue or irritated scalp. "The formula leaves no grit or powdery residue," says Lavinia Popescu, Olaplex Chief Scientist. "This launch is significant for us as we lean into the skinification of hair, [or] the idea that everything we use on hair not only needs to have a tangible benefit but that ingredients need to boost the health of hair."
