The HC65 is Nitecore’s latest iteration of its HC series of headlamps with the addition of High CRI and red LEDs. The included headband has a typical around-the-head strap and then one over-the-top one. That top strap can be removed, however you wouldn’t have a particularly reliable hold, even despite the amount of adjustment potential you get. This light’s Auxiliary White Light (High CRI) and RED light are placed behind a frosted honeycomb-style diffuser lens which provide a soft and artifact-free beam profile for up-close to near range distance usage. However, as mentioned earlier, we look forward to the day that Nitecore finds a way to incorporate an additional option of activating both the main LED (XM-L2) and auxiliary white light (High CRI) to get the best of both worlds (“flood” and “throw”). That certainly would help make the HC65 – the best all-rounded headlamp available. In addition, using a newer and more “throwy” LED like a XP-L HI would help get rid of most (if not all) of the tint shift. Really lights up the night and is great for sharpening knives. The Nitecore HC65 V2 headlamp has a maximum output of 1750 lumens from the Luminus SST-40-W LED and is powered by 1 x 18650 8A li-ion battery (included). The battery is rechargeable via a USB-C port at the side of the light and takes approximately 2 hours 25 minutes to fully charge. If the battery is at 4.1V – the BLUE light indicator will blink 4 times, pause (~1.5 sec) and blink 1 time. There is also a white auxiliary LED that has a high colour rendering index (CRI ≥ 90), a colour temperature of 4500 K and provides an output of 35 lumens. The high CRI means the beam resembles that of morning sunlight, making colours appear more clearly to the human eye and also reducing eye strain, which makes this mode perfect for night reading. The colour temperature refers to the colour of the beam, which is a neutral to warm light. Light Sources: CREE XM-L2 U2 LED (Primary), High CRI White LED (Auxiliary Light), Red LED (Auxiliary Light) The head torch features three light sources including the primary white light, an auxiliary red light and a high CRI auxiliary white light. The red light can effectively protect night vision and is ideal for watching wildlife, stargazing, emergency use and night photography. The warm CRI>90 white light is suitable for short range illumination and resembles the warmth of sunlight, giving a sharp visual whilst reducing eye strain.

All output numbers are relative to my homemade Integrating Sphere. It is set up with an Extech SDL400 Lux Meter for measurements including a Kenko PRO1D ND-16 filter. The base measurement is done with a Convoy S2+ that has been tested at 255 lumens. CRI діод. With its housing made from an aero-grade aluminium alloy that has a military grade hard-anodised finish, this thing is basically as tough as head torches come. It’s also rated at IPX8 in terms of waterproofness which means it’s submersible to 2 metres. This mode is perfect for climbing, hiking, caving and other outdoor activities. The High CRI AUX LED in the Special mode group is also tested, and it started at around 36 lumens. After 29 hours and 54 minutes, the output started to slowly decline till it reached 8 lumens after 32 hours and 58 minutes. At this point, I think I turned the light off manually.
