About this deal

When using a paint to colour wood, you risk hiding the natural grain. Whereas a wood stain is designed to completely soak into the wood, stain it to your chosen colour and bring out the beauty of the natural grain in the timber. Like all the colours available, both of our Oak Wood Stains are highly concentrated and effectively colour wood in one simple application. Applying Light Oak Wood Stain If the subsurface does not absorb the wood finish uniformly, the colouration will be uneven. For an improved, consistent and matted surface, we recommend retreating the surface with [701 Clear]. Thereby glossy spots are matted and an even appearance is created. Oak isn’t just a common choice in the woodworking world; it's also a beautiful material that brings a touch of elegance to any project.

Wood stain from hardware stores are chemically derived, and they smell like it. Sometimes for days or even weeks, high concentrations of alcohol, petroleum distillates, and other chemicals can linger in the air. These chemicals often call for application with a mask to prevent breathing the chemicals into our lungs. Staining wood doesn’t have to involve harsh chemicals. Natural and Homemade Wood Stain As previously mentioned, our Wood Stains are water-based so can be diluted to achieve a lighter shade, or you can mix our Natural Oak and Dark Oak Wood Stains together until you achieve the colour you desire. But that's not all. Johnstone's Indoor & Outdoor Woodstain is also an eco-friendly choice, made with low VOC technology. This means that it has a reduced impact on the environment, making it safe to use in your home or garden.

A. If the surface is dirty clean it first with a suitable Wood Cleaner. Otherwise, sand it with #100 Sanding Pad in the direction of the grain. If the wood is freshly sawn, you may need to start with something more coarse such as 120g sandpaper and work your way up with the Sanding Pads.

Our Wood Stain is available in 9 different colours, including a Light Oak Wood Stain (we call it Natural Oak) and a Dark Oak Wood Stain; the two Oak Wood Stain colours we’ll be using in this blog post. By selecting the right stain, applying it evenly, and choosing a suitable finish, you can enhance the natural beauty of oak and create a visually stunning masterpiece. Polyurethane: Polyurethane finishes are popular for oak wood for their durability and versatility. They come in various sheen levels, including gloss, semi-gloss, and satin. Polyurethane forms a protective layer on the wood surface, shielding it from moisture, scratches, and stains. It’s relatively easy to apply, and multiple coats can be added for increased durability. Oak is a hardwood known for its strength, durability, and distinctive grain patterns. It can be categorised into two main types: red oak and white oak.

This is a dark stain – but if you are looking for a deep, rich color, this is a really great option. This stain color is what I would consider a medium tone – neither super light nor super dark – but still transparent enough to really work well on oak! Here’s my full tutorial on how to stain oak wood! two tiered serving tray, made from oak, oiled Do you need to seal wood after staining? Brew some very strong coffee or tea. Allow to cool. Dip a clean rag in the mixture and wipe onto the wood. You might want to use a test piece first to see how dark your wood will turn. You might also need more than one coat to get the desired color. Water Based Ink

Most importantly, remember to experiment and test different staining techniques, as each project and piece of oak wood may require a unique approach. With proper preparation, patience, and the right products, you can transform ordinary oak wood into an extraordinary work of art.I always prefer to apply wood stain with a lint-free cloth. This allows you to control the amount of stain applied (I prefer thin coats) and there are no brush strokes or marks left behind.
