About this deal

Based on a series of routines that differ according to age, this sleep training method uses a combination of assisted and self soothing. These are referred to in this method as “soothing rounds.” It gives your baby the space they need to develop healthy sleeping habits in appropriate increments. So, you allow your baby to self-settle for 5 minutes, then comfort them and insert the paci (if you use one), and then leave them again. I can say that this works really effectively. Annie would often wake in the night and I would just give her her paci and she’d sleep for another 2-3 hours! Over time I’ve found that there are some fairly common questions that come up regarding the Moms On Call schedules. Babywise appears less detailed in its sleep training regimen too. So long as your baby falls asleep without the associations, you can follow their program. If the toddler can go to bed later than the baby then see if you can find some activities that are reserved just for that time of day. Toddlers are much better occupied when it’s a novelty for them. Is a Sound Machine Essential?

This method can be flexible if you need it to be. It will require some planning around your typical daily schedules though! You’ll want to try and mold your baby’s schedule around the day’s events without skipping vital parts of their established routine, namely their feed and nap times. Wait!! What… Toddler MOC?? I have a 5 year old. Would it / could it work for him? – @cameron_rogers52 Having a consistent start to the day will help to establish a consistent routine. It will also help greatly towards stabilizing your baby’s metabolism. You can either follow the schedules based on weeks of age and switch as your baby grows or change when the current schedule just isn’t working.

Is Moms on Call a “Cry It Out” Method?

With all the baby sleep training resources available, it’s hard to know which is the best fit for you. Prime example: As a new mom I read everything I could get my hands on before my firstborn arrived and guess which method I chose. None. Feeding is more about the atmosphere than it is about the food. In our online course we cover this specific issue with statements and truth according to the Toddler By Design paradigm. A helpful thing to do is to record how your baby does with different amounts of sleep. Honestly, you’ll likely already know if they’re more than a couple months old. Adjust Wake Times To Suit I’m not sure if they were better sleepers overall or if I just wasn’t as concerned and fussed about it.

This method isn’t exclusively a cry-it-out technique, but it does have small bouts where you will have to hear your baby cry. One more thing that we did which you’ll notice in the schedules I provided above was to add a dream feed. This just worked better for my babies and gave me peace of mind that they were getting enough calories. Consider this an overview of the Moms On Call book, but realize that there is so much more information in the actual book that I couldn’t possibly cover here. I have far less time on my hands to be constantly tweaking schedules. Because Moms on Call provides all the schedules you need it is simply a case of setting out to follow it.

At this point you might be wondering: What’s the point of enduring those tiny cries for comfort? Well, there’s a few reasons as to why soothing rounds are so important. Generally, the idea is to start the program from infancy. The recommended timeframe to start is at 2 weeks old. Beginning the routine early helps mitigate any confusion with day time and night time. It also gets them (and, let’s be honest, you) acclimated to the soothing round routine. They can be if you follow the schedule without listening to the needs of your baby. A healthy baby sleep schedule is one that takes into consideration what your baby needs as well as creates a feeding and sleeping rhythm throughout the day.

Make room for when your baby is having a growth spurt or isn’t feeling well. It will never hurt in the long run to ignore the schedule for a day or two. Moms on Call sleep training uses assisted and self soothing techniques to help babies fall asleep and stay asleep on their own.

However, it is brilliant for the mama with one or more children because of its simplicity. There is less guesswork, and more structure with very few principles to have to remember. We personally used a mix of Moms on Call and Babywise with our second and third babies and had great success! As mentioned above, I appreciated the simplicity of Moms on Call and not having to guess so much about wake times, etc. Healthy sleep habits benefit the entire family. 2.5 years on all three of my children are still fantastic sleepers.

There may be an adjustment period and you might have an overtired baby from time to time but lean in. It’ll pass as baby adapts to the routine. If you’re looking for a parent-led method, then Moms On Call is great. It would also be a great gift for a new mama, as it covers a lot of basic infant care. It's possible these schedules work better on older babies. Mine is only two months old right now. But the schedules are explicitly recommended in the book as soon as the baby is two weeks old and gaining weight. I'm assuming it's just advice that works well for some babies and not others. Soothing rounds are a critical element to the success of the Moms on Call sleeping method. What are soothing rounds? They’re a 3 round alternating regimen of crying and soothing times based upon the baby’s needs and your discretion. Here’s an example: Round 1Many first-time parents have used this method, but I have found it particularly helpful now that I have more than one child.
