About this deal

Finally, you’ll want to ensure the cards that you buy are of high quality so that you can use them for years to come. While writing this article, I linked my personal knowledge of tarot with a great deal of research. The descriptions of each card are fun to read and interesting, as they put forward new ways of exploring the cards. Each description is a little bit of guidance – telling us what the card wants us to do. Image by Lou Siday

First published in 2019 by Liminal 11, The Modern Witch Tarot is a diverse, contemporary take upon the traditional tarot inspired by fashion and modern witches from the everyday walk of life. It comes with an accessible guidebook that helps you how to embrace the gifts of the tarot and integrate them into your life. Each of the main card designs are reimaginings of the original designs to specifically include a more diverse casts of characters and modern ideas and references; cultural dress from all over the world, punks, girlbosses, same-sex couples, ambiguous gender expression, smartphones, laptops and (my personal favourite) a plethora of fun, rich aunties bringing their family gifts! Rider-Waite-Smith: Best tarot cards for beginners The illustrations have been recolored to great effect and it presents some innovative ideas with his treatment of the Pips and Court cards. The Mystical Manga makes you want to step boldly onto the road of adventure and discover what mystical opportunities lie ahead.

Lisa Sterle beautifully merges traditional Rider-Waite symbolism with modern imagery. Every classic symbol and idea is on each card, and we can read them intuitively. Furthermore, because of the diversity of people on the cards, we are able to connect with Tarot on a deeper level. Remember that you are the one who will be using your cards day in and day out, so you’ll want to choose based on your intuition, artistic eye, and other personal preferences while still considering things like sizing and quality. It took me a few readings to get used to the names, but now the cards resonate so well with my intuition.

The Minor Arcana receives a little less attention, there are no images or descriptions of the card, just the interpretation. It should be noted that there are no reversed meanings given for either the Major or Minor Arcana. Pictured above (From top right to bottom left): The King of Wands, 2 of Cups, 6 of Pentacles, The High Prietess, Knight of Pentacles, King of Cups, 10 of Cups and 10 of Pentacles. The Modern Witch Tarot arrives in a beautiful, slide to open box featuring cover artwork from ‘The Magician’ card. Intricate magical symbols are printed inside both the cover and sleeve of the box, in which sits the cards and an incredibly cute little guidebook. The Guidebook Although the suits have different names Emotions (Cups), Inspiration (Wands), Voices (Swords), and Materials (Pentacles), that doesn’t mean that the cards have different meanings than your average tarot cards. If you are new to the tarot reading, here is some advice from Jayne Wallace, an internationally acclaimed clairvoyant and the owner of the world-renowned brand Psychic Sisters, who many may recognise from the British television show Dragon's Den. Jayne is a gifted clairvoyant who has consistently studied across the world, continuously honing her craft to become one of the world's most respected psychics.

The art is so detailed that if you are a beginner reader you will be able to figure out what the card means by the details in the image. This is one of the major meanings of the Tarot, but it isn’t something that you have to know by memory. By simply looking at the card, most readers would be able to give the person they are reading a solid understanding of what is happening.
