About this deal

With a 450 W motor, this strimmer is a great mid-range model suitable for light-to-medium duty tasks. It delivers up to 9000 RPM, with a motor head that can also rotate 180° for accurate and neat edge trimming. Super lightweight and available for around 30 pounds, there’s a lot to like about the Flymo Speedi-Trim Electric Grass Trimmer though due to the low price, there is a little niggle here and there, but nothing to write home about. If you only need a strimmer for light work at home, you could do a lot worse than the Flymo Speedi-Trim. Bladed strimmers have two (or more) nylon blades fitted on the head. These generate a lot of cutting power as they spin. According to Flymo, this strimmer is fitted with a 1.5mm ‘silent’ dual auto line, but it’s worth pointing out that customers still report it being quite noisy – so don’t buy this under the false illusion that it won’t make any noise at all.

Bump feed’ strimmers require the users to ‘bump’ the end of the strimmer on the ground to release more line. This means that you are in control of when to release more line, preventing wastage.Makita DUR181Z Cordless electric grass strimmer– New this year because battery power has moved on so far I genuinely consider this an alternative to the Makita UR3000 [tested and proven] Some of the best corded electric strimmers can produce similar levels of power as low-range petrol models, which is great news if you prefer electric tools. If you don’t need that much power, there are also lighter, more manageable corded strimmers available. I’ve taken a short video so you can see the power involved too. I’d have to say, I was surprised by the results – it’s only something you can truly appreciate when testing multiple strimmers against each other: Testing my best electric strimmers in the UK – Flymo Contour electric strimmer, Bosch Electric Grass Trimmer ART 30, and the Makita DUR181Z electric grass strimmer Flymo’s Counter XL strimmer is an extremely popular product here in the UK, and you don’t have to search very far to find praise from its many customers. Makita UR3000 Electric Trimmer (best heavy duty electric strimmer plus build quality and reliability)

If you’re planning on edging, you can spin the shaft 180 degrees so that it cuts vertically instead of horizontally and use the built-in wheel edge guide. This little feature is simple, but it works really well, and you can get really nice finishes to your lawn. Specification: Warranty: yes (1 year) , Motor power: 550 W Cutting Diameter: 30 cm , Weight: 2.7 kg, Assembly is far from complicated and shouldn’t give anyone any problems despite the usual poor instructions that come with it. On the plus side, the shaft can be split in two making storage all that much easier. This strimmer features a lot of the same stuff you find on other popular electric strimmers. You can twist the tool head around and use it as an edger, and there is an edging wheel attachment to help with that, there is an automatic line feed system, and a free flower guard. Cordless strimmers, unlike mains powered models, can only be used for a certain amount of time before they run out of power. Some have a battery that lasts 20 minutes, while others may last up to 40. Protective clothing such as ear defenders, sturdy boots and protective glasses should always be worn. Corded models, although not as noisy as petrol models, can still be very loud. Also, tempting though it might be, strimming whilst wearing open-toed shoes is an absolute no-no – need I say more! This strimmer can be used to both trim and edge the lawn – there are separate settings for either task. Switching between the two functions requires a simple press of a button and twist of the cutting head.

The Flymo Speedi-trim electric grass strimmer weighs only 1.6 kilograms and the curved, molded handles make it very comfortable to hold. I did find that the secondary handle felt too high up for my liking when I tried to manoeuvre it around but it is so light that it won’t cause you too many problems. There’s quite a few things worth considering when you’re buying an electric strimmer – for a start, is a cordless strimmer more convenient? Comparing corded electric strimmers with cordless and petrol strimmers. Which is is the best type for you? The Flymo Contour XT Electric Grass Trimmer and Edger offers great value for money and has a very user-friendly design – whether you’ve had a lot of different strimmers in the past, or this is your first venture, it’s simple to use and delivers good results. As with most products these days, the instructions provided are all pictograph and not the easiest to follow but thankfully a little common sense and some google searches will have you set up in no time at all. This is the heaviest tool featured on this list, at 3.2 kg, but it’s still relatively easy to manage – this is helped by the fact that it feels well balanced. Plus, we mustn’t forget – with the extra weight comes a lot of additional power!Specification: Warranty: yes (1 year) , Motor power: 300 W , Cutting speed: 10500 rpm. , Cutting Diameter: 25 cm , Weight: 2.5 kg The other thing to note is that it can be easy to accidentally slice through the mains cable! This is an unnecessary expense, so while moving around the garden you’ll need to be thinking about the location of the cable, as well as what you’re doing with the strimmer. Cordless Strimmers There are three main types of garden strimmer- petrol-powered. Corded electric and cordless strimmers. Deciding which one is best for you all comes down to individual needs and preferences. Petrol strimmers are easily the most powerful type and are better suited to people with larger areas to work on and people who will use their tools commercially. However, petrol strimmers are more expensive if you compare them to either of the electric types, require more maintenance, and aren’t as good for the environment. On the other hand, they do offer more range and freedom of movement.
