About this deal

Above them, Celestine soared upward into the dark skies -- her Geminae Superia had donned their helms, but the Living Saint had no need of such apparel. Behind them, Veilwalker and her Harlequins lingered by the Webway gate. The Shadowseer gathered her powers, levelling her staff towards the Webway portal and beginning a whispering chant. The runes upon the structure's flanks glowed fiercely with a searing light. Of course, one of the key reasons to play Thousand Sons is their cornucopia of psychic powers. With Tzeentch, the God of Magic, as their patron, it’s understandable that they’d have a lot to choose from, and the Thousand Sons Codex doesn’t disappoint. Ahriman deserves special mention here as, while he’s not on the level of Magnus the Red (more on him in a moment), he’s still an incredibly powerful psyker. He gains re-rolls on both casting psychic powers and Deny the Witch attempts, has a beneficial re-roll aura, and even has an improved invulnerable save. Generally speaking, if you have Ahriman’s model, you’re playing Ahriman’s model. Sam: “ Fulgrim was designed to be released as part of a diorama – one half of a duel playing out between him and Ferrus Manus on Isstvan V, at that pivotal point in the Heresy. We depict him with the Blade of the Laer. Fulgrim was released first, while I worked on finishing Ferrus. With the Fulgrim sculpt it was very much about the flamboyance of the Emperor’s Children, the perfection of swordsmanship and the elegance of movement against the brute strength of Ferrus.” Ferrus Manus, Primarch of the Iron Hands In the end, Magnus led his XV th Legion to the banner of Horus and fought on the Arch-heretic's side during the Great Betrayal of the Horus Heresy. He survived those events and ascended to the position of a Daemon Primarch of Tzeentch as a reward for his service to the Changer of Ways.

Magnus the Red led the Thousand Sons alongside other Daemonic forces of the Changer of Ways in the Invasion of the Stygius Sector some time after the opening of the Great Rift in the Era Indomitus. The invasion began when Tzeentch grew jealous of his brother Nurgle's newly acquired realspace domain in the Scourge Stars. These are some of the reference images that I used for the colour and the design of the story, as well as the base.White Dwarf 230 (US), "Bitter and Twisted: Ahriman" and "Chapter Approved: Thousand Sons Terminators", pp. 39-43, 71-79 Sam: “ Corax was a challenge to sculpt, mainly due to the Panoply of the Raven Lord, which includes two archeotech pistols, an energised whip, and artificer lightning claws. It was difficult to come up with a believable pose that integrated all of these elements, and worked with the Korvidine Pinions. His Sable Armour is based on Mk IV armour with details taken from Raven Guard artwork in the Forge World Horus Heresy books.” Leman Russ, Primarch of the Space Wolves All that changed when frantic reports reached Sylandri Veilwalker of familiars that had espied the Loyalists. At the Shadowseer's urging, the punishing pace increased still further, until the slowest servitors were abandoned altogether. As Guilliman and his warriors thundered across a hazy, crystal-studded cavern, sudden volleys of firepower scythed into them from the flanks. Fifteen warriors fell to that first volley, punched off their feet by bolt shells wreathed in coruscating flame. Rhinos exploded amidst leaping blasts of psychic sorcery, while Skitarii degenerated into howling mutant flesh as the fires of change washed over them.

In Norse mythology, the king of the pantheon of the Aesir, Odin, is said to have traded one of his eyes for ultimate knowledge of the universe, just as one of the stories surrounding Magnus states that he sacrificed one eye to Tzeentch to gain a deeper understanding of the Warp. The Horned Raiment - Magnus' unique suit of Artificer Armour was believed to be as much a thing of tangible psychic force and Empyreal energy as it was a physical construction, shifting form and appearance as he willed, and the means by which it protected him was proof against the most savage ranged and melee weapons despite its often primitive appearance. Fulgrim • Perturabo • Konrad Curze • Angron • Mortarion • Magnus the Red • Horus • Lorgar • Alpharius Omegon Magnus the Red– so known because of his unusual, copper-coloured skin – was always special, even amongst his Primarch peers being stolen and dispersed throughout the galaxy in their technological creches. He was aware, awake, and remembers everything of his journey. Landing on the planet Prospero, he was raised amongst psykers – the only place in the universe where that may have been possible.

Coming Back to Make Improvements and Add OSL

This came to a head at the infamous Council of Nikaea, where psychic powers were banned by Imperial Edict – no Space Marine could ever again use psychic powers, or they would face punishment by the Emperor Himself. Worst of all, the flesh-change had returned, and Magnus, now merged with a daemon, became both more, and less, than he had been. It was left to his disciple, Ahzek Ahriman, to find a cure for the rapidly dwindling Thousand Sons. His answer was The Rubric: a spell that intended to bring only a cure – but which instead brought death to every marine afflicted by the flesh-change, turning them to dust, and leaving their spirits to haunt their armours as semi-living automatons. Drawing himself up to his full height, Magnus raised his ensorcelled glaive and spoke dolorous words of power that rang out in defiance of all natural law. Purple flames leapt, forming shimmering shields and warding the Thousand Sons from harm. Suddenly, the Rubricae and Scarab Occult could advance unharmed, striding upwards as their foes' shots exploded upon Magnus' psychic shields. Magnus the Red, Primarch of the Emperor’s 15th Legion, a psyker of such magnificent power he is second only to the Emperor himself; a psyker of such immense power that while he can feel the presence of the Sisters of Silence they’re pariah abilities have no effect on his power to manifest the energies of the warp and bend them to his will. As a Primarch, Magnus was formidable enough; in the 41st millennium as the chosen scion of Tzeentch, twisted and made great with the power of the warp into a Daemon Primarch he is truly a terrible force to behold. With massive wings and a form swollen with the powers of Chaos he can lay waste to entire swathes of the armies of the Emperor with his mind, let alone the devastation he sows with his weapons as he falls upon the adherents to the cadaverous false Emperors will. But does Daemon Primarch Magnus live up to his fluff hype on the table top?

However, serious suspicion began to surround Magnus as the hatred towards mutants and psykers spread through the Imperium as the Crusade progressed and the Legions learned how dangerous the use of psychic abilities could be on world after world that had been ravaged by them during the Age of Strife. After much debate in the Imperium over the use of psykers, the Emperor called an Imperial Conclave of all the Primarchs and chief Imperial officials at the remote and volatile planet of Nikaea to deal with the issue once and for all. The highest authorities in the young Imperium were present or were represented, including the Emperor and his Sigillite and Regent Malcador, who officiated over what became known as the Council of Nikaea. At the forefront of the debate was Magnus, who argued very passionately for his cause and the important contributions that psykers and the use of sorcery could make to the improvement of the Imperium and to speeding up the successful conclusion of the Great Crusade. The main opponents to the use of psykers were the Space Wolves who shared their Primarch Leman Russ' hatred of sorcery as unclean and cowardly and the Death Guard, whose Primarch Mortarion testified in person against the use of psychic powers because of his experience with the psychic warlords who had ruled his own homeworld of Barbarus. The Shard of Prospero, destroyed by the Primarch Jaghatai Khan of the White Scars during the Second Battle of Prospero. This shard urged the Khan to choose a side in the interstellar civil war and seemed neutral to both Horus and the Emperor. Normally I write a Step by Step article of the process. In this case I thought that it could be more interesting to share the experience rather than just explaining how it was done. I divided the text in 4 parts: proposal and approach, conversion, painting and final details. Proposal and approach Primarch Roboute Guilliman and his Terran Crusade forces are assaulted by the Daemon Primarch Magnus the Red and his Thousand Sons in a voidship graveyard on LunaThe moment has arrived," she said. "Our drama has played out, and the brothers' enmity burns anew." Veilwalker landed gracefully, ignoring a storm of magical flames that exploded away to her left. Daemons, befuddled by her Domino Field, cast their spells at where they believed her to be. With a thought, Veilwalker activated the communications inlay in her helm, communing with her Death Jester, the Hollow Prince. A popular way to take Magnus, and still be able to field something else, is the Rehati War Sect. The Rehati War Sect is Magnus plus 3-9 Daemon Princes or Exalted Sorcerers. I ran a version of this with Magnus and 3 Sorcerers on Discs in my most recent battle report for TFG Radio. Usually the Rehati War Sect that uses Sorcerers will be run with a bare bones Daemons CAD featuring Heralds of Tzeentch and Pink Horrors. In this list you want to roll on the Malefic table until you get Cursed Earth. This way you can get Magnus down to a 2++ save re-rolling 1s. This is far and away the best way to run Magnus if you’re committed to doing so. Another iteration of the War Sect that is popular is Magnus plus 3-4 Daemon Princes with wings. If you take 4 that’s your list. If you take 3 you have room for a small Allied Daemon detachment. With the Flying DPs you’ll be abusing the fact you can fly around casting a ton of psychic powers a turn. Hopefully you get Cursed Earth and a few Summoning powers, plus maybe Endurance so you can get Magnus a 2++ re-rolling 1s save and a 4+ Feel No Pain! Even without Cursed Earth, he can still “Bless” himself for a 3++ re-rolling 1s so not too shabby either. It is a list that would be dependent on going first more than any other list I can think of. Planning for the potential seize, or running into Coteaz, would be of utmost importance for this list.
