Changing the override code is the responsibility of the hotel. However, in reality, this practice is overlooked. Guests should not feel awkward asking at the hotel’s reception for somebody to come and take a look at their safe. This is the right way to go about it. If it is open, either it is a regular electronic safe, and in this case, you will need the master code. Or it is a hotel safe and you don’t reset the code, you set it. Where Do Hotel Room Safe Thefts Occur?

Some safes are really simple to use: the code you dial is the code you will open the safe with, only one time: it’s single use. You should always try this with the door open the first time. Hotels might decide their clients need laptop sized safes if they mainly have business customers whereas smaller hotels might prefer to go with smaller sized safes which would be suited for smaller items such as camera’s, iPods, passports, cash and keys.

Usually, hotel safes come with an override code that is often set by default to 1234, 0000, 1111, 9999, 000000, 111111, 123456, or 999999.

I usually arrive at a hotel after a long day away from home. I have spent several hours of tedious journey, and after long hours of work. Usually, I relax with a beer or a good meal, or both. How to secure a Hotel Safe Front Door: This is the most common format for the installation of safes in hotels. A side hinge holds the hotel safe door which is opened both in standard opening format and with a 110° wide opening. The option of opening the hotel safe at an angle of 110° minimises the risk of damaging larger belongings, such as a laptop computer, on inserting and removing them from the safe. If a hotel guest forgets their safe code, they should understand that the hotel staff normally do have a way of opening the hotel safe.Keep in mind that if you see 3 or 5 greasier (if that exists) keys, it might be a 4 or 6-digit combination where a digit is used twice. It has happened to me once: I couldn’t guess a code with that method, and when I asked the owner, he gave me a 6 digit-combination instead of a 5 one. the hotel manager, sometimes, has a master key to open the safe in case of an emergency, even if the safe is electronic. The entry of the key is hidden behind a plastic panel; The batteries are low or dead: ask the person on duty for help (he or she will come with a master key); You have forgotten your combination. These types of hotel room safes require the use of an override *sequence*, not just a PIN number. This type of safe is almost as good as the one previously mentioned, as it contains a removable chip, which can access all the same data as above. Electronic Keypad Access With Manual Safety Key Some hotel safes are not designed to be used in a hotel with many guests. The hotel manager or owner didn’t know or care to buy proper hotel safes.
