About this deal

For me the Katana Artist Series is the perfect peak of the Katana Range - with improved control access and visibility via its front-facing control panel. For the Standard Katana Editions - the control panel sits on top of those Amps. Five unique amp characters (Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown, and Acoustic), plus newly voiced variations for each

It sounds good at low volume as well. Even at the lowest possible setting on the 0.5 watt setting sounds pretty darn good. This amp is easily enough for playing at bars and even small/medium sized halls. The Boss Katana 50 MKII is pretty loud. You’d probably manage some smallish gigs with it, but if you’re looking for a guitar amp that’s primarily for live use, then maybe consider the 100W model; you’ll also get a little more clean headroom with that too. After that comes the equalization section which has the typical ‘bass’, ‘middle, and ‘treble’ knobs that you would expect. The eq has a great range, and is very responsive.

The EQ is a little more important here, as it’s easy to get it to sound fizzy with too much of anything. The Katana 100/212 is the same as the 100, but it includes a second 12 inch speaker, as the name already suggests. For optimal performance, stay up to date with the current Katana Mk II system software and BOSS Tone Studio Updated Boss Tone Studio sound customization software with over 60 different Boss effects, channel and global EQs, customisable routing and more (free on Bosstonecentral.com) Building on their best-selling formula, Boss has unveiled its next generation of flagship guitar amplifiers - the Katana MkII series! Cutting-edge features include double the amp sounds, extra effects (now up to 5 at once), power amp functionality and MUCH more.

Five independent effects sections (Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb) with three selectable variations in each If you're unfamiliar with the Katana'samp types, thisimmensely versatile combooffers fiveprimary amp sounds that cover everything from organic vintage clean tones to modernhigh-gain onslaught. There's even adedicated voice that's optimised for electro-acousticguitars!And with Boss' Tube Logic technology, the Katana 50 MkII delivers the convincingfeel and harmonic content of genuine tube amplifiers. Diverse Built-In Effects

Five independent effects sections (Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb) with three selectable variations in each. Even the direct-out sounds good. There’s a setting in the Tone Studio where you can set the ‘feel’ of the direct out. There’s ‘rec’, which has a built in cabinet simulator for recording. The cabinet sim is very good, but if you want to use your own, you can use the ‘live’ setting. There’s also a ‘blend,’ which is exactly what it says: a blend between the two.

Those five amp types are acoustic, clean, crunch, lead and brown (a high-gain voice based on the EVH-inspired ‘brown sound’ in the Boss Waza Amp); selection is via a rotary switch, and you simply push the button above it to access the variations. As systems go, it’s a whole lot easier than stuffing 10 amps into the boot of the S-Max. Standby means the Katana amp is powered on, though the onboard speaker is disabled. This is the perfect setting for late-night recording/ practice sessions. 0.5w is perfect for when you are playing at low volume and still require the tone of a pushed guitar amp. 25w is ideal for quiet rehearsals and jamming with other musicians, whereas 50w will enable you to compete with a drummer and use it in live situations.

The Katana 50 MKII can store 4 of your favourite patches directly to the amp, with 15 effects per patch. There is a rear-panel connection, allowing you to control the amp channels with a footswitch or manipulate effects with an expression pedal. The Katana 50 is compatible with the Boss FS-6 ( Katana 100MKII and above use the GA-FC) and all Katana models are compatible with all Boss Expression Pedals. Line, USB, and phones/recording outputs with mic’d cabinet emulation and three Air Feel settings (configurable in BOSS Tone Studio) The power output of the Katana 50 can be changed to four different settings; standby, 0.5 of a watt, 25w or 50w. Having different power outputs means you can still experience the tone, and more importantly, the “feel” of a dimed amp at a reasonable volume. Clean, this amp sounds very warm. It sounds very close to a tube amp, especially on the clean channel. As I said, the EQ has incredible range, it can go from super boomy to incredibly tinny and everything in between just from the EQ controls.

Furthering the live possibilities of the Katana EX is the new emulated line out, which is in addition to the phones/recording out. This makes the new Katana a very valuable stage companion, transforming it from a modest practice amp to a combo that is capable of taking up residence in the largest venues. With 50 watts of power and a custom 12-inch speaker, the Katana-50 delivers a commanding range of gig-worthy tones that gracefully slice through any band scenario. The amp also excels for home playing, with a uniquely efficient design and innovative Power Control that provides inspiring sound and response at low volumes. In addition, the Katana-50 includes integrated access to a huge range of BOSS effects, which are customizable using the free BOSS Tone Studio editor software. And with the amp’s powerful Tone Setting memories, you can store your favorite amp channel setups and effects combinations for instant recall. The Katana MkII makes it easier than ever to record your amp. You’ve got line level, USB, and phones/recording outputs giving you plenty of choice. The recording output comes with mic’d cab emulation for proper amp-like resonance – mix-ready tones out the box. Five unique amp characters: Clean, Crunch, Lead, Brown (derived from the Waza amp), and Acoustic (for acoustic-electric guitars)
