About this deal

You’re also going to want to know how durable the product is, so here we’d advise taking a look at the materials that the Televisions are made from. At first, I tested this feature on a 1080p Blu-ray of The Martian, before moving on to a 480p and then an HD version of Arrested Development. Colours looked rather drab, which made the image less lifelike, although the upscaling overall was smoother and less noisy than that I experienced with the Hisense 50A7100FTUK. Sound quality The LT-55CF890 features the old Fire TV interface and not the all-new Fire TV experience available on some of its streamers. It’s large and straightforward to navigate with tabs for the home screen, live TV, your videos, movies, TV, apps and settings. But that doesn’t mean you need to jump to the higher end of the price range, either. For most people, middling prices are the best way to go, as these products usually meld both quality and affordability.

To be honest though - if you're concerned about things like processor speed and RAM, then you should really be avoiding JVC altogether. JVC TVs are made by Vestel and pretty-much exclusively for Currys. Spending a decent amount of money on a Vestel TV with only a 1 year warranty may not end up being a good move. LG, Samsung, Philips (etc) all make 65" TVs in a similar price range that will most likely be a better bet than JVC, plus will usually come with a 5 or 6 year warranty if you buy them elsewhere. So the final step for us was to look specifically at products that are made by JVC but are also only fitting in the Televisions category. JVC branded Televisions When it comes to computers, pay special attention to processing power and memory. These will affect your experience the most if you’re just looking to browse the internet and use your PC to store files.

JVC’s Fire TV Edition isn’t going to set the 4K HDR world alight, but it’s a basic, easy-to-use TV at a reasonable price

Some brands and specific models can make a splash with consumers. Because of this, other companies sometimes offer very similar products that might be quite a bit cheaper.

Other options include some basic games – including a surprisingly strong retro Sega collection – and basic radio and music offerings. TV-specific extras include the option to name your various input sources, though frustratingly this is from a set list rather than an open text field – so for example my Nintendo Switch has to go in as the generic ‘Game Console’ even while my PS4 is labelled ‘PlayStation’. The JVC Fire TV Edition is a 4K HDR TV though, and therefore supports the HDR10 standard, as well as the dynamic Dolby Vision HDR format. However, we’ve found that cheaper sets generally struggle with premium Dolby formats – either to draw out the quality, or play the format at all – and you may not want to buy this set for that purpose. Upscaling is somewhat disappointing. While the image is sharp, colours appear washed out compared with the TV’s handling of native 4K content. Please note: Failure to produce the card and relevant ID means we are unable to release goods on collection. The presence of Dolby Vision is particularly good news for a budget model. ‘Dynamic’ HDR formats such as Dolby Vision are capable of adapting to the limitations of low-end 4K TVs, whereas ‘static’ HDR formats such as HLG and HDR10 rely more heavily on a TV’s natural talents. At this price, those talents are routinely in short supply. JVC Fire TV Edition review: Key specifications Once you’re into the Fire TV interface proper, you’re faced with a familiar set of tiles offering apps, recently watched programmes and suggestions of things you might want to watch. In addition to the usual suspects, you’ll also notice tiles for the TV’s various HDMI inputs and terrestrial TV tuner. These inputs are treated just like apps or watched programmes, so if you regularly use the HDMI 4 port, for instance, then that gets pole position in your recently watched list. One place the JVC does trip up is in its latency. Even in its built-in Game mode, the TV displays a lag of 42ms. The result was even worse than the 33.8ms achieved by the Hisense A7100, which doesn’t have a game mode at all. Picture quality

We searched for all of the Televisions that we could find at Currys. In total we found 268 different products available. It’s also important to have a good idea of your expectations in terms of quality too. You may not actually be looking for the best quality product if your main goal is to get cheap Televisions. So spend some time considering what’s important to you and think about the areas that you’d be happy to compromise or not. Those colours aren’t as intense as they should be in HDR mode, though, so don’t expect the kind of eye-popping colour which you get from pricier sets – the JVC covers a mere 70% of the DCI-P3 colour gamut, which is far less than even many mid-range TVs. By the same metric, even LG’s affordable UM7400 managed to cover 82% of DCI-P3. Brand, as mentioned earlier, is another really important factor to consider for buying Televisions. TV with stand: 762 x 1243 x 227 mm (H x W x D) - Stand: 18 x 600 x 227 mm (H x W x D) - Boxed: 860 x 1369 x 154 mm (H x W x D) But for other PC uses, such as gaming or video editing, you will need better graphics cards, RAM and GPUs.

products were identified that fit the criteria mentioned above. I.e JVC products within the Televisions category. That did however bring up one issue…that JVC are known to make more products than just Televisions.

More about this manual

It doesn’t matter if it’s a microwave or measuring scales, researching the right electronic device for your needs will save you a lot of headache down the line. Like JVC TVs, many of the cheaper Panasonic LCDs are also made by Vestel, however the 6-year warranty and (potentially) better support by Panasonic themselves would make the Panasonic/Richer Sounds combination a far better bet than JVC/Currys with a 1 year warranty, IMO. But despite how often we use electronic devices, buying new appliances can be a daunting, and often expensive, task.
