About this deal

Each card has a name, an icon indicating its card type, and the number of copies of it in the game (labelled A, B, and C respectively in the picture above). Cards also have a Construction Cost (D); these are the resources a player must gather for the card if it’s in their Construction Area. It’s A Wonderful World is in my top three games of all time. I love the smooth puzzle of drafting and building up your engine to generate more resources. This game plays from 1 up to 5 players straight out of the box with minimal changes to make the game flow at any player count. Let’s Dive In, Get That Box Open

Before the start of the following Production phase that will allow players to produce resources and build cards, each player must choose among the cards in his Draft area which one(s) to place in his Construction area and which one(s) to discard to get bonus resources. I’d love to say that the theming of the cards comes through in how your society progresses. In reality, it all kind of fades into different coloured cards that produce different coloured cubes. I’ve never once found myself thinking, “I need to find a card that produces science so I can build my cloning vats”. I’m a lot more likely to be thinking, “I need greens so I can build my card that makes blues!” Theme isn’t everything, but at least the art is lovely.

With this in mind, if you have landed here on the keyword ‘campaign’ from the empire building likes of ‘Twilight Imperium’ or ‘Through the Ages’. Or you are hoping for an expansion that would substantially up the complexity of the base game. You may find yourself shaking the box wondering where they’ve put the miniatures. When all costs are paid the card may be added into player's Empire tableau (tokens on card are discarded) and any bonus (if any shown bottom-middle of image above the bottom bar) is gained to player's Empire card. points may seem like a lot but a few small differences and I think it's a winnable game. It's much easier to say that in hindsight of course.

Once you have your cards it is time to decide how you would like to play them. In It’s a Wonderful World, you have two options. Firstly, each card has a recycling value which will allow you to discard the card and then take one of the five basic resource types. Your other option is to try and build the card. Each card requires a bunch of resources to build. But once built will give you some kind of benefit each turn and maybe a little bonus when you first complete it too. In It’s a Wonderful World, you are an expanding Empire and must choose your path to your future. You must develop faster and better than your competitors. You’ll carefully plan your expansion to develop your production power and rule over this new world. Finally, I have not seen a specific strategy dominate. Some games were won with many low point scoring buildings, some with heavy-hitting scoring cards and one was based on earning multipliers based on the number of Supremacy tokens earned! Final Thoughts: All players simultaneously draft a single card from their hand and then reveal them. Remaining cards are passed and drafting repeats until all are taken. Master Projects (3) – these give heaps of VPs but their cost is even higher! They run into two columns on the cards themselves! It's a Wonderful World is played in 4 rounds with three phases each: first Drafting, then Planning, and finally Production. It’s a Wonderful World may be one of the strangest names for a game, especially one where the theme doesn’t exactly pop of the cards, but when the game is one of the best drafting games of recent years it doesn’t matter.

Draft Phase – Every player starts with 7 cards. Players will draft a card, simultaneously reveal their card, place it in their Draft Area, and then pass the remaining cards to their left (or right in even-numbered rounds). This will continue until every player has 7 cards in their Draft Area.In most drafting games, you either draft what is beneficial to you or “hate draft” so your opponent doesn’t benefit. The Recycle Bonus creates a third category – drafting a card specifically for its Recycle Bonus.
