A pure polyester tent is lightweight and breathable, and it’s arguably the most popular tent fabric because it’s also less expensive. The fabric doesn’t shrink or get baggy when it gets wet, so it offers you excellent protection from inclement weather. If you want to keep the Trailmade 1 truly waterproof, it’s critical to get the footprint, or at the very least a heavy-duty tarp. The floor is made out of relatively durable material, but it won’t hold up on its own to a torrential downpour. Headroom: Can you stand up in the tent? How steep are the walls? The steeper the better, since that gives you more space to move around.

We consider how easy it is to get into and out of the main entrances and sleeping compartments, how bright and roomy the living spaces are, and if we consider there to be enough room for the number of people intended to sleep in the tent. The dimensions of this tent are a bit smaller (sans the ceiling) than others, so this tent would be best suited for two people that don't mind cozying up or a solo human with a dog. Mountain Hardwear's Strato UL2 is a proper ultralight tent that can be as light as 2 pounds, 5 ounces when stripped down to the essentials. But unlike other ultralight tents that can feel somewhat brittle and experimental, the Strato UL2 feels more like a regular tent for the price of a few extra ounces. The setup is simple with a one-pole system using hubbed DAC Featherlight NFL poles which are both ultralight and robust. Tents are not exactly designed for throwing parties (ok, some are) but still, ideally you want a tent to have enough space to at least sit up in and keep your gear with you.Sometimes even the toughest tent bottoms can allow some water to seep in if it’s wet enough.
